answer text
The UK plays an active role in Eastern Europe and across the world in support of LGBT+ rights. We became co-chair of the Equal Rights Coalition (ERC) in June last year, in partnership with Argentina. The ERC is a group of 42 like-minded States that share best practice and promote LGBT equality globally. Our plan is to deliver an ERC Strategy and Action Plan to re-energise the ERC. In addition to this, our embassies across the region proudly fly the rainbow flag for International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia (IDAHOBIT).
more like this

answer text
It is, and always will be, an absolute priority to protect our democratic and electoral processes. The Government took steps during the election to protect the safety and security of our democratic processes. The Government worked with a large number of organisations to do this, and would like to thank them for their continued support and work in this area.

As you would expect, the Government examines all aspects of the electoral process, and that work is ongoing. With regards to the Intelligence and Security Committee’s report on Russia, the Prime Minister has cleared the report for publication, which is now a matter for the new Committee.
more like this

The IMF predict the worst growth rates in Sub Saharan Africa since the 1970s – a recession for 2020 of -3.2%.

I am therefore working with the IMF, World Bank and the African Union to ensure we support their efforts to mitigate the impacts of the pandemic across the continent, including through support to the IMF’s Catastrophe Containment and Relief Trust, and its Poverty Reduction and Growth Trust, both of which will support African recovery.
more like this

answer text
We are concerned that the people of Eritrea are facing food insecurity as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. COVID-19 and the desert locust outbreak have impacted existing humanitarian need as a result of lasting effects of war and climate change. Humanitarian and development programmes in Eritrea are being adapted to address current food security challenges. DFID funds life-saving activity in Eritrea, including providing £4m to UNICEF in 2019-20 to help treat malnutrition in under-fives and provide access to safe hygiene and sanitation services.

We are also aware of reports that the Government of Eritrea is targeting the Red Sea Afar people during the COVID-19 pandemic. We raise our concerns about human rights in Eritrea with the Government at every opportunity, and we will continue to make clear that measures taken by them to tackle COVID-19 must be necessary, proportionate, time-bound, transparent and regularly reviewed. Eritrea remains a priority country for the FCO under our annual human rights reporting, and we will continue to monitor the situation there.

answer text
We are deeply concerned by reports that the new Israeli Government coalition has reached an agreement which may pave the way for annexation of parts of the West Bank. We are urging Israel not to proceed. The Foreign Secretary reiterated this message during a call with Alternate Israeli Prime Minister Gantz on 20 May and Israeli Foreign Minister Ashkenazi on 2 June. The UK position is clear: any unilateral moves toward annexation would be damaging to renewed efforts to restart peace negotiation, and contrary to international law. Demolitions and evictions of Palestinians from their homes cause unnecessary suffering to ordinary Palestinians and, in all but the most exceptional of cases, are contrary to International Humanitarian Law.
more like this

answer text
Our legal aid supports residents in Al-Walaja and officials from our Embassy in Tel Aviv and Consulate-General in Jerusalem visited the area on 17 June. As we made clear at the UN Security Council remote meeting on the Middle East Peace Process on 20 May, the UK is seriously concerned by the continued demolition of Palestinian property by Israeli authorities. In all but the most exceptional of circumstances demolitions by an occupying power are contrary to International Humanitarian Law. The practice causes unnecessary suffering to ordinary Palestinians and is harmful to the peace process. We urge both sides to avoid taking actions which make peace more difficult to achieve.
more like this
