In 2018 – 19, Highways England anticipates spending £8.6 million of this fund.</p><p> </p><p>Investment plans for 2019 – 20, including support to the Government’s National Air Quality Plan, are still under development. Since then, Highways England have been undertaking an extensive programme of air quality research, and have identified large barriers, overhanging part of the carriageway, as a potentially effective measure.</p><p> </p><p>Highways England have also developed an outline implementation programme. question text	To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, what the annual targets of his Department are for reducing transport emissions in the next 15 years.

answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 21/11/2018 answer text <p>The UK has statutory targets for both air quality and greenhouse gas emissions across the whole economy. For greenhouse gases, statutory mechanisms set national targets every five years in the form of carbon budgets, as established by the Climate Change Act 2008.</p><p> </p><p>For air quality, the Government consulted on a world leading Clean Air Strategy earlier this year, which includes 2020 and 2030 targets for five key air pollutants (nitrogen dioxide, particulate matter, sulphur dioxide, ammonia and volatile organic compounds). The Government intends to publish the final strategy by the end of this year.
