answer text
The human rights situation in South Sudan continues to be of serious concern to the British Government. Human rights abuses, including the targeting of civilians on the basis of their ethnic identity; the pervasive use of rape; recruitment of child soldiers; forced displacement of civilian populations; and the use of food as a weapon of war, all continue to take place alongside a rapidly deteriorating humanitarian situation.

At the Human Rights Council in March, the UK will make clear that all parties must make concerted efforts to bring these abuses immediately to an end. The solution to the severe human rights and humanitarian crises is political stability. We will therefore also urge all parties to the conflict to engage with the second phase of the High Level Revitalisation Forum with seriousness of purpose. The UK will continue to work with the United States and Norway and with The Intergovernmental Authority on Development to give the process the best chance of success.
