<p>On 20 October the Foreign Secretary issued a statement condemning advancement by the Israeli authorities for 2,900 settlement units across the West Bank. We are gravely concerned by the approval of settlement construction permits in Hebron for the first time in 15 years. The British Embassy in Tel Aviv raised the issue with the Israeli authorities on 17 October. Settlements are illegal under international law and undermine both the physical viability of the two-state solution and perceptions of Israel’s commitment to it.</p>
