answer text <p>This Government was elected with a mandate to reform and modernise the UK human rights framework. A Bill of Rights will protect fundamental human rights, but also prevent their abuse and restore some common sense to the system.</p><p> </p><p>The UK has a proud tradition of respect for human rights which long predates the Human Rights Act 1998. The Human Rights Act opened the system to abuse, which has damaged the credibility of human rights.</p><p> </p><p>We will consult fully on our proposals before introducing legislation.</p><p>The Prime Minister told the House on 3 June: &quot;The plans that were set out in our manifesto do not involve us leaving the European convention on human rights, but let us be absolutely clear about our position if we cannot achieve what we need...
