answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 04/06/2015 answer text <p>NHS England is responsible for commissioning general practitioner (GP) services, and is aware of recruiting difficulties in Herefordshire. NHS England is working with the local GP Federation to promote Herefordshire to GP trainees.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>Nationally, there has been an increase of 1,677 full-time equivalent GPs (including Registrars and Retainers) since September 2010. At 30 September 2014 the total number of GPs was 36,920, which represents a real increase in capacity.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>In addition this Government is committed to making 5,000 more GPs available by 2020. We will increase the number of GP trainees from 40% to 50% of all trainee doctors and expect Health Education England to ensure this happens. GPs either work as, or are employed by independent contractors who hold contracts with NHS England to provide primary healthcare services for the National Health Service and it is for them to determine the hours worked by GPs.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>There are already 1,677 more full-time equivalent GPs working and training in the NHS than in September 2010. Health Education England (HEE) is responsible for delivering a better health and healthcare workforce for England and for ensuring a secure future supply. HEE has plans in place to increase the number of GP training places to 3,250 each year from 2016. Asbestos is a hazard which may give rise to risk and so information on its presence in a building should form part of the pre-construction information which the client must make available to the contractors involved.</p><p> </p><p>In addition, all work with asbestos (including demolition) is subject to the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 (CAR) which requires exposure to asbestos to be prevented or reduced to as low a level as reasonably practicable. In cases of final demolition the employer’s plan of work must, so far as is reasonably practicable, specify that asbestos must be removed before any demolition starts, unless removal would cause a greater risk to employees than leaving it in place.</p><p> </p><p>CAR also requires the owner, or person responsible for maintenance (the ‘duty holder’) of a non-domestic building to record the location and condition of any asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) and to put into place a plan to manage the risk they present. The duty holder is responsible for managing the risk at the time they hold the duty; they are not responsible for prior exposure to earlier building occupants. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 05/06/2015 answer text <p>Maternal mortality rates in the United Kingdom are falling, from 13.95 deaths per 100,000 women giving birth in 2003–05 to 10.12 in 2010-12. Internationally, UK maternal mortality rates are similar to France and Germany, but still higher than in Norway, Spain and Sweden.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>A range of actions have been taken to help improve outcomes for both women and babies. The Department aims to ensure that women receive the highest quality maternity care by focusing on improving health outcomes and women’s experience of care, and giving women greater choice over childbirth.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>To support the National Health Service in improving outcomes in pregnancy, labour and immediately after birth, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) has developed quality standards on antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care designed to drive up standards and measure priority quality improvements. The standards are derived from the best available evidence and are central to improved care focussing on delivering the best possible outcomes.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>It is the responsibility of NHS organisations to ensure high quality care and choice for women in pregnancy and during childbirth. Clinical commissioning groups are responsible for commissioning maternity services locally. To assist with the commissioning of safe maternity services that reflect the needs and preferences of local maternity users, NHS England has developed a maternity commissioning resource pack for clinical commissioning groups which is currently being updated.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>The UK has the most robust data in the world and a long established programme to review maternal deaths, which widely disseminates its findings and recommendations to help reduce the number of such deaths in the future.
