motion text That this House applauds the work of charities of sufferers of complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), Burning Nights CRPS Support and CRPS UK; welcomes the 2018 updated clinical guidelines for CRPS, one of the most painful of all known conditions at 42 out of 50 on the McGill pain scale; expresses concern that although an estimated 15,000 people per year develop CRPS, many fail to receive prompt and adequate treatment through the NHS because of a lack of knowledge and appreciation of the condition and that sufferers frequently have to wait for two years or more to access a pain clinic, in spite of early treatment being crucial to success in combatting this excruciating condition; notes that sufferers cannot routinely access mental health support to assist with psychological trauma of diagnosis; further notes that the Government keeps no record of diagnoses, making it difficult to build an effective case for further research; notes that the condition can affect anyone, particularly following mild trauma and injury or minor surgery; recognises that there are no known cures at the present time but that there are some effective treatments; and calls on the Government to develop and adopt a protocol for diagnosis in an emergency setting, to increase the capacity of pain clinics and access to mental health support for sufferers, including a 24 hour support line as the pain is often particularly excruciating at night, to build evidence of diagnoses to encourage much needed and overdue research into this chronic neurological disease, and to ensure greater dissemination of information on the condition and to raise awareness among general practitioners and consultants to reduce the impact and suffering caused by this excruciating condition.

motion text That this House greatly values the service, over decades, of the Post Office counter staff in the Members' Lobby Post Office; views with concern the proposal to shut down the counter service in that Office; regrets that hon. Members have not had this properly drawn to their attention; acknowledges that an additional 32 hon. Members have also expressed opposition to the proposed closure; and accordingly requires a proper consultation to be held, to which all hon. Members are invited to contribute, before any such loss of service is implemented. more like this

motion text That this House is concerned that from next season there will be no football UEFA Champions League or Europa League highlights on any of the major free to air channels in the UK; notes that UEFA have decided to sell the rights exclusively to pay television providers in an increasing number of European countries for the period 2018 to 2021 in contrast to European Rugby which is bringing some matches in the European Rugby Champions Cup back live on Channel 4 next season; further notes that for many matches more people watch the free to air highlights for the Champions League than watch the live coverage on BT Sport which attracts less than a quarter of the viewers that used to watch live on terrestrial television; notes that one of the major sponsors of the Champions League, Heineken, has suggested it would prefer to see some matches in countries such as the UK return to free to air; urges BT Sport who hold all UK rights to offer at a reasonable price the highlights rights to one of the main easily accessible free to air channels; calls on the Government to add UEFA Champions League highlights to those listed events which must be offered to the free to air channels; and asks the European Commission to open an inquiry to investigate whether the bundling of all live and highlights rights by UEFA is an infringement of competition law just as they investigated the English Premier League a decade ago.

motion text That this House notes the Conscientious Objection (Medical Professionals) Bill by Baroness O'Loan; further notes Article 9 of the European Convention of Human Rights, which states that everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this right includes freedom to . . . manifest his religion or belief, in worship, teaching, practice and observance, and the consequent upholding of conscience rights by the European Court of Human Rights (see Bayatyan v. Armenia (2011)); notes the existence of conscience clauses in the Abortion Act 1967 and the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act 1990 and the UK’s honourable history of accommodating conscientious objection; notes the findings of the Parliamentary Inquiry into Freedom of Conscience in Abortion Provision (2016), which found that there are medical professionals who find themselves subject to discrimination due to their beliefs; considers that conscience also applies to areas such as the withdrawal of life-sustaining treatment and the provision of contragestive drugs; is concerned that other medical professionals now have little to no formal statutory protections, a situation which threatens the inclusion of a significant number of people in our society and diversity within the medical profession; recognises that a significant proportion of the public support reform that will strengthen conscientious objection for medical professionals, as a recent ComRes poll (May, 2017) has demonstrated; calls on the Government to give time to the Conscientious Objection (Medical Professionals) Bill, and consider how best to uphold the rights of conscientious objection for those who work tirelessly to provide compassionate care for vulnerable patients.

motion text That this House welcomes the campaign around Children's Grief Awareness Week from 16 to 22 November 2017, especially the concern that too many bereaved children suffer from a deep sense of loneliness; notes the finding that one in 29 children and young people in our schools have been bereaved of a parent or sibling, which is roughly one per class; acknowledges the estimate by the Childhood Bereavement Network that over 100 children are bereaved of a mum or dad each year, and many more are bereaved of a brother, sister, grandparent or someone else important in their lives; accepts that one of the best ways to help such children is to help them realise they are not alone and that there are others out there like them; and calls on the Government and local authorities both to ensure that parents, carers and schools are aware of what local child bereavement services are available in their area for children and young people and to help establish such services, working with the local voluntary sector, where such services do not already exist.

motion text That this House notes with concern the reduction in financial support given to widowed parents with dependent children through the new Bereavement Support Payment (BSP); believes that the duration of 18 months of payments is too short to provide families with the financial support they need; recognises that the limited evidence that is available suggests the risk of serious distress following bereavement for either or both the parent and children remains high for at least three years for almost every family, and in some cases for much longer; and therefore calls on the Government to extend the duration of these payments to at least six years and to consider further reforms to the BSP system including lifting full conditionality requirements for universal credit for a widowed parent with dependent children for at least three years after the bereavement and extending the BSP to unmarried, cohabiting partners with dependent children when one parent dies. more like this

motion text That this House recognises the contribution of the hospitality industry to the economic and social life of the UK, as a sector adding £23 billion to the UK's GDP annually, and directly employing 1.6 million people, which is around seven per cent of the total private sector workforce; notes that in 2016 it was responsible for creating 30 per cent of all new jobs across the UK, and is a key partner to the Government in helping to deliver the national living and minimum wages and jobs to young people, and developing better skills, training and apprenticeships to the UK workforce; is aware that the hospitality sector's fortunes are affected by numerous Government policy areas and departments, from the Home Office, HM Treasury, the Department for International Trade, the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, the Department for Work and Pensions and the Department for Education; wishes to highlight the contribution of the sector to a diverse range of Government stakeholders, enabling the proliferation of both an economic and a social force for good; as a result, believes that the Government should take a holistic approach to the industry to protect the critical growth of the sector, and ensure that the UK, after leaving the EU, continues to flourish; and commends such an approach in order that the sector is harnessed to work with Government effectively.

motion text That this House joins the Government to express serious concerns over the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) role in human rights violations in Iran and support for terrorism abroad, including destabilising activities in the region and reports of Iran's links and backing of military and proscribed groups; notes that the IRGC is actively involved in slaughtering the people of Syria to keep the dictator Assad in power and recruits child soldiers and refugees from Afghanistan and trains them to become terrorist fighters; believes senior IRGC commanders are on Interpol's Red Notice list for acts of international terrorism including the 1994 bombing of a Jewish community centre in Buenos Aires; reiterates that the IRGC only answers to the Supreme Leader and is responsible for suppression of Iranian people including the 2009 uprising, crackdown on human rights defenders, activists, journalists and anti-death penalty campaigners as well as arbitrary arrests of dual citizens; further notes IRGC's role in assassinating Iranian dissidents abroad, including members of the main opposition coalition, PMOI and NCRI; recognises IRGC's involvement in Iran's ballistic missile and nuclear programme; takes into account that the IRGC is considered a terrorist group by international allies including the US; share the Government's view that IRGC's support for terrorism undermines prospects for regional security and lasting peace in the region; calls on the Government to include the IRGC on the list of proscribed organisations, impose punitive measures against its officials and to work with allies to expel the IRGC from Syria, Iraq and the Middle East.

motion text That this House is proud of the UK's leadership in ending animal testing for cosmetics; notes that the EU and several other countries have also ended this unnecessary practice; believes that it is now in the interests of animals, consumers and a fair platform for UK industry and international trade to end it around the world; understands that this could be achieved with an international convention that will end animal testing for all cosmetics products and ingredients worldwide; and calls on the Government to lead such an initiative by tabling, actively pursuing and supporting a resolution at the UN General Assembly for ad hoc committee as called for by UK-based Cruelty Free International. more like this

motion text That this House pays tribute to the more than 5,000 members of the emergency services who have lost their lives in the course of their public duties; gives thanks to the more than 250,000 emergency services personnel and volunteers who currently serve, and to all who have served; notes that there are individual memorials dedicated to the police, fire, ambulance and search and rescue services, but that there is no one national memorial dedicated to all; further notes the Prime Minister's support for the building of Britain's first national emergency services memorial and the creation of an Official Emergency Services Day; and endorses such a memorial and day to serve as a national symbol of remembrance and gratitude to the sacrifice and work of the emergency services. more like this
