motion text That this House commends the outstanding charitable contribution donated at short notice by fans of Paisley football team, St Mirren football club for raising 2,000 Euros for small Catalan football team CD Borgonya after the latter's playing grounds were damaged by flooding; thanks St Mirren fan Kenny Steele for organising the fundraising; recognises the deep historical ties between Paisley and Borgonya that were founded upon the shared connection to Coats, famous manufacturers of textiles; agrees that Paisley should be celebrated for the disproportionate contribution it has made to the world; and encourages community leaders in Paisley and Catalonia to continue to develop these links. more like this

motion text That this House, having noted with interest the articles by Dr Rowan Williams as guest editor of New Statesman 13 June 2011 on the values of faith-based rather than faith-exclusive big society activity in the arena of international aid and the consolidation of civil society institutions and in the consideration of policy at home `that is not about the poor as objects of kindness but about the nature of sustainable community, seeing it as one in which what circulates - like the flow of blood - is the mutual creation of capacity, building the ability of the other person or group to become, in turn, a giver of life and responsibility', recommends that the media, politicians and the public give attention to the Archbishop'slectures, sermons and books. more like this

motion text That this House welcomes the launch of Muscle Group: South East Coast; notes that the new group is led by local families and people affected by muscular dystrophy and related neuromuscular conditions who will campaign to improve access to essential specialist care and support; is concerned that a new report published by the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign illustrates serious problems affecting the 4,200 people with muscular dystrophy and related neuromuscular conditions living in Kent, Surrey and Sussex; further notes that access to multi-disciplinary specialist care improves overall health outcomes and survival for patients with muscular dystrophy and related neuromuscular conditions; is deeply concerned that some patients are being denied access to multi-disciplinary specialist care; calls on the Specialised Commissioning Group, local primary care trusts and the Strategic Health Authority to take forward a review of neuromuscular services to identify areas of best practice and gaps in NHS service provision; and praises the campaign led by the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign, local families, health professionals and experts in these conditions who will work together to fight for good access to clinically effective, first class, specialised neuromuscular services across the NHS South East Coast region.

motion text That this House notes the findings of the Healthcare Commission Report which places the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust at the top of its most improved hospital league table; further notes that the Trust is now compliant with 35 of the 44 core standards; appreciates the sustained dedication and effort of the staff through a challenging financial and operationally changing climate; and calls on the Government to give the NHS in Cornwall the support it deserves by finally addressing the unfair funding formula that continues to put Cornish patients at a disadvantage by linking local NHS funding to the lowest private sector wages in the UK. more like this

motion text That this House welcomes Mencap's new campaign Don't Stick it, Stop it!, which highlights the bullying experienced by children with a learning disability and the devastating effect this has on their lives; is shocked that Mencap's survey of 507 children with a learning disability showed that 8 out of 10 have been bullied, and that for 4 out of 10 the bullying has not stopped even after they have told someone about it; supports Mencap in its efforts to raise awareness of this problem; and calls upon the Government to take urgent action to tackle disablist bullying. more like this

motion text That this House notes with horror that four members of the Iraqi Federation of Trade Unions (IFTU) were murdered in cold blood on the night of Wednesday 27th/Thursday 28th October when their train, which was carrying consumer goods, was attacked by mortar fire on the railway line between Mosul and Baghdad and that the bodies of two train drivers, a guard and a security guard working for Iraqi Railways were mutilated and burnt by terrorists; strongly supports the statement issued by the IFTU Executive Committee which condemns this heinous crime against workers employed by Iraqi Railways and shows clearly that these terrorists are the enemies of all the Iraqi people; notes that they are the same criminals who had attacked and killed Iraqi children in Al-Amel district in Baghdad in early October, and also killed women, men and elderly people in previous acts of terror and sabotage; joins with the IFTU in conveying its heartfelt condolences to the families, friends and comrades of these martyrs, Kasim Shahin, train driver, Maithem Shaker Obeid, train driver, Ahmed Ibrahim, train controller and Zeyad Tarig. railway security guard; and endorses the IFTU view that the blood of our martyred workers will not go in vain and their call to the Iraqi Government and security authorities to take legal measures to bring the murderers to justice, and to ensure the safety of Iraqi railway workers and all workers, in defence of their homeland, people and working class.
