motion text That this House notes the 20th anniversary of the implementation of the European Parliament's Donnelly Report, which introduced the toughest car crash standards in the world and has saved more than 78,000 lives across the EU since its enforcement; commends the Report's expertly crafted technical specifications for crash tests, which have cut the annual number of vehicle occupant deaths across Europe by half since 1 October 1998; observes the legislative text has been adopted as the standard used by the United Nation's World Forum for Harmonisation of Vehicles Regulations and implemented by 62 countries saving hundreds of thousands of lives globally; and calls on the Government to support measures to build upon these standards to improve vehicle occupant safety further and prevent avoidable deaths. more like this

motion text That this House welcomes Talk Money Week, the annual opportunity to encourage the public, business, charities and educators to Talk Money and prompt the UK's biggest conversation about financial capability; notes that Talk Money Week seeks to remove the stigma around money by having open conversations that help people feel less alone and better able to take control of their finances; recognises the importance of encouraging people to save regularly, raising awareness about the availability of free debt advice, and looking at how people use credit for everyday expenses; and further notes the benefits of raising the profile of financial education, and what this means for children and young people and encouraging people to seek expert advice on retirement planning. more like this

motion text That this House congratulates both the government of Colombia and the FARC-EP on reaching a final agreement on Peace for Colombia; welcomes the bilateral ceasefire; pays tribute to the British and Irish trades union movement and its campaign Justice for Colombia for building international support for the peace process; commends Justice for Colombia for the official role it has played and will continue to play; recognises the important role played by many hon. Members and especially those hon. Members from Northern Ireland who, through Justice for Colombia, have provided international support and experience sharing with the Peace for Colombia negotiators; notes that now that an agreement on peace has been reached, it is time for the de-listing of the FARC-EP; hopes that the Government will make further representations to the government of Colombia for the release from prison of Huber Ballesteros and all political prisoners; further notes that the agreement is only the beginning of the peace process and calls on the Government to encourage the government of Colombia and the ELN to begin formal negotiations as soon as possible; and hopes and anticipates that hon. Members continue to support Justice for Colombia in providing monitoring and observation of the implementation of the peace agreement.

motion text That this House is deeply concerned by the potential fire risk currently posed by white goods such as dishwashers, washing machines, tumble dryers, fridges and freezers, and the inadequacies of product recalls; notes that the London Fire Brigade has attended over 2000 incidents since 2011 to tackle fires involving white goods, with an estimated cost to the public purse of over £118 million; further notes that such fires can be devastating for those involved and that the Coroner's recommended changes to improve the product recall system following a fatal fire in 2010 have not yet been made; notes that these concerns have been echoed by Which?, Electrical Safety First, the Chief Fire Officers Association and the Local Government Association; calls upon manufacturers to make publicly available the risk assessments they undertake once a fault is found in a product; and further calls upon the Government to take urgent action as called for by the London Fire Brigade in its Total Recalls campaign, including the introduction of a single register for UK product recalls, readily accessible to the public online.

motion text That this House welcomes the revised peace agreement reached in Colombia this week between the government of Colombia and the FARC-EP; is alarmed by the rise of paramilitary activity in Colombia since the initial peace agreement was signed at the end of September; notes that the number of people forced to flee their homes to become refuges within their own country is second only to the situation in Syria; pays tribute to the work of The Patriotic March in defending the rights of the vast number of these people and the work it has done to bring peace to Colombia; is shocked that in the space of just 48 hours, three members of the The Patriotic March have been assassinated in Colombia and two more suffered attempts on their lives; calls on the Government to condemn the recent wave of assassinations of political activists and human rights defenders in Colombia; and further calls on the Government to make representations to the government of Colombia to take every measure possible to ensure that the genocide of the 1980s, when nearly 5000 members of the political party the Patriotic Union were murdered after a previous peace agreement was signed, is not about to be repeated.

motion text That this House welcomes the amnesty framework laid out in the Peace Agreement between the Government of Colombia and the FARC-EP of August 2016; notes that all political prisoners should have been freed in January 2017; regrets that only 1,081 of 3,400 FARC prisoners have so far been released from Colombian gaols; is concerned that more than 1,400 prisoners began a hunger strike on 26 June 2017 in protest about the lack of implementation of the amnesty law; is further concerned that many have sewn up their mouths in this hunger strike in what is a painful and dangerous personal gesture; and calls on the UK Government to join the 455 human rights defenders and leading campaigners from all over the world, including Nobel Peace Prize winner Adolfo Perez Esquivel, in asking the Colombian Government to fulfil its obligations under the Peace Agreement and release the remaining political prisoners. more like this

motion text That this House welcomes the spectacular resurrection of the Irish Cultural Centre in Hammersmith; applauds the Board of Directors and volunteers for their commitment to the local Irish community, determined to see Irish culture and history given a permanent home in the borough; recognises support given by the British-Irish Inter Parliamentary Assembly and the APPG on Irish in Britain and financial assistance provided by the Irish Embassy and Emigrant Support Programme; understands that the Centre's partnership with Shepherd's Bush Housing Association and financial backing from the Irish Government enabled purchase of the site freehold to be held in trust for the benefit of the Irish community and, with the generous support of Hammersmith and Fulham Council, inspired the charity in raising over £3 million needed to demolish, rebuild and fit out a modern purpose-built Centre with the addition of 24 new homes available to rent; believes that the new 200-seat auditorium with the latest in audio-visual technology will showcase the role of the Centre as a community hub, supporting the isolated elderly, providing location for voluntary and community sector training, a venue for workshops and shows for performing arts groups, children's and further education classes in the Irish language; and urges the Government to encourage and assist local authorities in partnership with community groups to showcase and celebrate the rich cultural contribution made by the Irish throughout history.
