motion text That this House is deeply concerned at the reports in the Russian newspaper, Novaya Gazeta, that men believed to be gay have been abducted, tortured and killed in Chechnya; expresses alarm at denials made by Chechen authorities regarding these reports, which claim that gay men do not exist in the republic; deplores this act of mass torture and murder, which specifically targets LGBTI people; supports Amnesty lnternational's call for action; believes that this call for action compels Aleksandr Ivanovich Bastrykin, Chairman of the Investigation Committee of the Russian Federation, to carry out an immediate and thorough investigation into the reports, taking all necessary steps to ensure the safety of any individual who may be at risk in Chechnya; and further supports an immediate investigation into this reported purge of LGBTI people in Chechnya; and calls on the international community to ensure that the Russian authorities are held accountable for upholding its international human rights obligations and ensuring that justice is brought upon those reportedly committing these crimes in Chechnya.

motion text That this House expresses concern over the raid of the offices of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in Rabwah, Pakistan by the Counter-Terrorism Department of the Punjab Police on 5 December 2016; notes that four Ahmadis were arrested during the raid, and that they were office workers affiliated with the Ahmadiyya community's magazine, Tehrik-e-Jadid; further notes that the printing press used to publish the magazine and the daily newspaper Al Fazl was sealed; welcomes the position of the US State Department that it is very concerned about these reports that Punjab counterterrorism police have raided the international headquarters of the Ahmadiyya Muslim community in Rabwah and that laws that restrict peaceful religious expression, particularly by the Ahmadiyya community, are inconsistent with Pakistan's international obligations; understands that Ahmadi communities are a marginalised minority in Pakistan and face persecution because of their faith; acknowledges that the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is a peaceful strand of Islam, with its UK community abiding by the motto Love for All, Hatred For None; and on a cross-party basis calls on the Government to use its diplomatic channels to make representations to the Pakistani authorities regarding this incident.

motion text That this House notes that the world celebrates Human Rights Day 2016 on 10 December; further notes that this is a day to commemorate the UN General Assembly adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948; highlights that human rights are abused by repressive regimes across the world, whereby certain governments restrict freedom of speech and expression, continue to hold unfair trials and systematically persecute religious minorities and LGBTI+ communities, among other incredibly serious violations; commits to working cross-party to uphold human rights in the UK and globally; and calls on the Government to work constructively with other nation states to promote the universality of human rights. more like this

motion text That this House notes that the eleventh annual Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week takes place from 21 to 27 November 2016; further notes that this campaign was established by the charity Carbon Monoxide Awareness, an organisation which supports the victims and families of victims of carbon monoxide poisoning; recognises that in the UK more than 200 people are admitted to hospital with suspected carbon monoxide poisoning each year, which sadly leads to around 50 deaths; highlights that risks can be reduced by installing a CO alarm in the home and by having appliances regularly serviced by a registered engineer; and wishes this year's campaign success in spreading awareness of the dangers of carbon monoxide. more like this

motion text That this House notes 2016's Gas Safety Week beginning on 19 September; further notes that this awareness week, which is organised by the Gas Safe Register, aims to highlight the dangers of poorly maintained gas appliances, which can cause gas leaks, fires, explosions and carbon monoxide poisoning; notes that 5,123 organisations supported Gas Safety Week 2015; recognises that every year in the UK, more than 200 people are hospitalised with suspected carbon monoxide poisoning, which leads to around 50 deaths; highlights that by ensuring all gas appliances are checked regularly by a gas safe registered installer, and fitting an audible carbon monoxide alarm, simple steps can be taken to save lives; commends the Scottish Government for bringing in regulations in 2015 to compel landlords to provide a carbon monoxide detector with an integrated long life battery; urges the Government to follow the Scottish Government's lead to legislate for this in England; and hopes that the campaign is successful in promoting gas safety to all stakeholders.
