The Home Office collects and publishes data on the size and composition of the police workforce in England and Wales on a biannual basis in the ‘Police workforce, England and Wales’ statistical bulletin, available here: Police workforce England and Wales statistics - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk) The latest officer numbers were released in the publication covering the situation as at 30 September 2020. Data covering the situation as at 31 March 2020 and previous years are available in open data format here: Police workforce open data tables - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk) Total officer numbers are collected and published twice each year covering the situation as at 31 March and 30 September. Time spent in temporary accommodation means that no family with a child ever has to be without a roof over their heads. The number of households in temporary accommodation is well below the peak over a decade ago, in 2005.

But temporary accommodation is an intermediate measure. This government changed the law to allow councils to place families in decent and affordable private rented homes. This means homeless households do not have to wait as long for settled accommodation, spending less time in temporary accommodation.

We have also replaced DWP’s Temporary Accommodation Management Fee with a Flexible Homelessness Support Grant which local authorities can use more strategically to prevent and tackle homelessness. This amounts to £402m over the two years from 2017/18.

This government is implementing the most ambitious legislative reform in decades, the Homelessness Reduction Act, which significantly reforms England’s homelessness legislation, ensuring that more people get the help they need earlier to prevent them from becoming homeless in the first place.

The Act places duties on local authorities to intervene at earlier stages to prevent homelessness in their areas. It also requires local authorities to provide new homelessness services to all those affected, not just those who are protected under existing legislation.

I will place detailed figures in the Library of the House.

The Gambling Commission is responsible for ensuring that the costs of applying for a Commission licence, and the regulatory burden of complying with it, are the minimum necessary to ensure compatibility with the licensing objectives.

The Commission keeps its licensing arrangements and licence conditions and codes (LCCP) under review. Recently it consulted on improved licensing processes for moving to an online licence application process, and introducing a multi-jurisdictional form to reduce the costs for applicants applying for licences in more than one jurisdiction.

In advance of the Gambling (Licensing and Advertising) Act 2014 coming into force on 1st October, the Commission has been working with operators and overseas regulators to avoid duplication and undue regulatory burden wherever possible – for example, minimising the need for operators to duplicate material or assurances that can be obtained from an operator's host nation regulator.
