In addition to Royal Fleet Auxiliaries, there are sufficient UK seafarers currently resourced by the Ministry of Defence (MOD) to conduct overseas operations to meet current operational commitments. This arrangement includes four Roll-on Roll-Off vessels which are operated by Foreland Shipping Limited under an MOD contract.<\/p>

During periods of conflict which demand resource above current MOD capacity, the UK Merchant fleet is used to meet this requirement. The UK is committed to the long-term goal of a world without nuclear weapons, in line with our obligations under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). The Government firmly believes that the best way to achieve a world without nuclear weapons is through gradual multilateral disarmament negotiated using a step-by-step approach under the NPT. The UK will not sign or ratify the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) as we do not believe that this treaty will bring us closer to a world without such weapons. The TPNW fails to address the security obstacles that must first be overcome to achieve lasting global nuclear disarmament. We have continued to build on the progress we made at March European Council, by jointly publishing the topics for discussion on the future framework. This incorporates both the economic and security partnerships outlined by the Prime Minister.<\/p>
