As Leader of the House of Lords I have reiterated to all Departments the importance of adhering to the 10 day target for responses to questions for written answer. My office has been in close contact with the Department for Health and Social Care’s Parliamentary Team to ascertain why HL660 and HL661 went unanswered. They have now confirmed that they have been answered. The Permanent Secretary has previously reassured me that the department is working to return performance to pre-pandemic levels. As this issue has persisted I am writing again to the Permanent Secretary to highlight the lack of improvement.
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4200", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Lord True"} } , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Lord True"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2023-12-19", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2023-12-19T14:51:53.88Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "92"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : ""} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "Leader of the House of Lords"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2023-12-14", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "Department of Health and Social Care: Written Questions"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "2"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25277", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Lords"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask the Leader of the House why Written Questions HL660 and HL661, tabled on 28 November, have not been answered after 10 working days.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/1551", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Lord Jackson of Peterborough"} } , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "Lord Jackson of Peterborough"} ], "uin" : "HL1214"} , {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1472742", "AnsweringBody" : [{"_value" : "Treasury"} ], "answer" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1472742/answer", "answerText" : {"_value" : "

The government understands that millions of people across the UK, of all ages, are worried about the rising cost of living.

From 1 April 2022, the National Minimum Wage for people aged 21-22 increased by 9.8% to £9.18 an hour and the Apprentice Rate increased by 11.9% to £4.81 an hour.

On 26 May 2022, the government announced over £15 billion of additional support for households, targeted particularly on those with the greatest need, bringing total government support for the cost of living to over £37 billion this year.

Young people may be able to benefit from the additional support the government is providing, including:

• £400 off household energy bills from October through an expansion of the Energy Bills Support Scheme (EBSS);

• a one-off Cost of Living Payment of £650 for households on means-tested benefits; and an additional one-off disability Cost of Living Payment of £150 for disabled people;
