The Department for Transport routinely assesses and monitors the risks posed to British-flagged shipping worldwide, using intelligence assessments and reporting from a range of HMG partners. Guidance and advice is updated and shared with industry on a regular basis; emergent risks and associated advice are distributed through a resilient communications system.<\/p>

Network Rail are currently in the process of gathering data about historical Japanese knotweed instances, however there are currently 5138 distinct sites with active treatment of Japanese knotweed.<\/p>

The breakdown of complaints is as follows: 2019 \u2013 25; 2018 \u2013 62; 2017 \u2013 42; 2016 \u2013 72; 2015 \u2013 73, not accounting for cases where a legal claim is made without a complaint. Some of these complaints developed into claims, with 170 claims made over the last 5 years. The total sum of these claim settlements amounts to £3.73m; this covers treatment costs as well as damages, investigation costs and legal costs. It was not possible to obtain figures for the overall expenditure on treatment, however it costs approximately £18-30 per metre square of knotweed to successfully treat it, over a period of 3 \u2013 5 years.<\/p>
<\/p><\/li>
In instances where Japanese knotweed is discovered, the location of knotweed is recorded and mapped, followed by treatment activity tailored to whether it is affecting safe operation of the railway and/or creating biosecurity issues. Measures such as boot and tool cleaning are undertaken to prevent further spreading of the knotweed. In carrying out these actions, Network Rail complies with the Lineside Vegetation Management Manual and relevant legislation.<\/p><\/li>
The Department\u2019s contract with Post Office Limited for the Post Office Card Account is due to end November 2021. Plans are underway for a replacement service.<\/p>

The replacement service will ensure that customers who remain unable to open or manage a standard bank account, are provided with a payment mechanism to receive their payment of pension or benefit from Department, over the counter, in their local area. The Electoral Office for Northern Ireland successfully administered two unscheduled elections during 2017. The Electoral Commission\u2019s research with voters and campaigners found high levels of confidence that the Northern Ireland Assembly election held on 2 March 2017 was well-run.<\/p>
The progress on the consultation on the future delivery of electoral services in Northern Ireland was unavoidably delayed owing to the need for the Electoral Office to focus on delivering the elections that have been held since the consultation closed in January, as well as the purdah periods which have also accompanied those elections. The Government and the Chief Electoral Officer for Northern Ireland will continue to reflect upon the most appropriate point to issue a joint response to the consultation.<\/p>

The department advised the OCC that the estimated value and duration of the consultancy contract meant that it was subject to Cabinet Office efficiency controls. UK GDP fell 7.2% between the first quarter of 2008 and the third quarter of 2009. Of the G7 economies Japan was the only one that had a deeper recession, and the depth of UK recession was almost twice that of the US.<\/p>
Thanks to the government's long term economic plan, since the trough of the recession the UK has grown faster than France, Italy, Spain and the euro area as a whole. In the year to the first quarter of 2014 the UK grew faster than any other G7 economy, the deficit has fallen by over a third as a share of GDP since 2009-10 and there are more people in work than ever before. But the job is not yet done and the biggest risk now to the recovery would be abandoning the plan that is delivering a brighter economic future.<\/p>
