My Rt. Hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care referred the Future Fit scheme to the Independent Reconfiguration Panel (IRP) for their expert advice on this matter. The IRP provided a full assessment of the Future Fit scheme, which took into account concerns about patient safety, and recommended that the new model of hospital care be implemented without delay.

On 2 October 2019, in line with the IRP’s recommendations, the Secretary of State decided that the emergency care centre should be located at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital whilst enabling as much clinically appropriate care as possible at the Princess Royal Hospital. He asked NHS England and NHS Improvement to work with the clinical commissioning groups and Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust to develop the accident and emergency local model.

The Department continues to closely monitor the volume of MA applications. We are aware of the current increase in outstanding MA applications, due to recent staff changes and we are working to resolve this.

We are urgently training new colleagues on this area of work and we expect work volumes to decline from mid-November onwards. We would advise people to apply as soon as they are eligible, 14 weeks before the week when their baby is due. We are fast tracking any emergency cases.
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4513", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Mims Davies"} } , "answeringMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Eastleigh"} , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Mims Davies"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2019-10-17", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2019-10-17T17:00:34.247Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "29"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "Work and Pensions"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "Work and Pensions"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2019-10-14", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "Maternity Allowance"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "1"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25259", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Commons"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, what recent (a) assessment her Department has made of the trends in and (b) estimate her Department has made of the average processing times for applications made for maternity allowance.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/478", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Lord Field of Birkenhead"} } , "tablingMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Birkenhead"} , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "Frank Field"} ], "uin" : "58"} ], "itemsPerPage" : 10, "page" : 0, "startIndex" : 1, "totalResults" : 2, "type" : ["http://purl.org/linked-data/api/vocab#ListEndpoint", "http://purl.org/linked-data/api/vocab#Page"]} }
