The Government keeps all taxes and reliefs under review to ensure that they continue to meet policy objectives and represent value for money for taxpayers.

In 2019, the Government comprehensively reviewed the Social Investment Tax Relief (SITR), in line with commitments made when SITR was enlarged in 2017.

As part of this review, the Government published a Call for Evidence in April 2019, which ran for 12 weeks.

The Call for Evidence examined SITR’s effectiveness at incentivising individuals to invest in social enterprises, and its impact on the social investment and enterprise markets. A list of questions asked in the consultation can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/social-investment-tax-relief-call-for-evidence/social-investment-tax-relief-call-for-evidence.

The Call for Evidence received responses and evidence from a range of interested parties, including social enterprises, charities, community businesses, investors, and intermediaries.

A Summary of Responses to the Call for Evidence will be published in due course.
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/3991", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Jesse Norman"} } , "answeringMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Hereford and South Herefordshire"} , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Jesse Norman"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2020-03-06", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "groupedQuestionUIN" : [{"_value" : "21376"} , {"_value" : "21377"} , {"_value" : "21378"} , {"_value" : "21379"} , {"_value" : "21382"} , {"_value" : "21383"} , {"_value" : "21385"} , {"_value" : "21386"} , {"_value" : "21387"} ], "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2020-03-06T09:24:01.687Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "14"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "Treasury"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "Treasury"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2020-02-26", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "Social Enterprises: Tax Allowances"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "1"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25259", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Commons"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer, what information his Department holds on the effect the Social Investment Tax Relief has made on community businesses.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4658", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Alex Sobel"} } , "tablingMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Leeds North West"} , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "Alex Sobel"} ], "uin" : "21384"} , {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/443036", "AnsweringBody" : [{"_value" : "Home Office"} ], "answer" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/443036/answer", "answerText" : {"_value" : "

The Government definition of extremism is 'vocal or active opposition to our fundamental values, including democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and the mutual respect and tolerance of different faiths and beliefs.' We have been consistent on this since 2011 and have reaffirmed this definition in the Counter-Extremism Strategy.

The overwhelming majority of people in this country support these values and condemn those who try to undermine them.

The Government would not consider the ‘claim’ that an individual’s religion is ‘the only one true faith’ to be extremist.

We are clear that Government should not restrict anyone’s freedom of speech or right to practise a faith. These are core values that help to make our country great. However we shouldn’t allow the extremist voice to go unchallenged, causing harm to our society and promoting hatred and division.

The Government has engaged on the strategy, and will continue to engage with partners - including faith groups, communities and civic society groups on the new proposed powers to tackle the most dangerous extremists. This provides an opportunity to consult on the proposed powers further, and ensure that sufficient safeguards are in place to protect our rights to free speech and debate.
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4110", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Dame Karen Bradley"} } , "answeringMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Staffordshire Moorlands"} , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Karen Bradley"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2016-01-14", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "groupedQuestionUIN" : [{"_value" : "21382"} , {"_value" : "21383"} , {"_value" : "21385"} , {"_value" : "21386"} ], "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2016-01-14T16:21:59.483Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "1"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "Home Office"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "Home Office"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2016-01-06", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "Radicalism"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "1"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25259", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Commons"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, with reference to the Government's Counter-Extremism Strategy, published in October 2015, what constitutes non-violent extremism.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/47", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Sir Gerald Howarth"} } , "tablingMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Aldershot"} , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "Sir Gerald Howarth"} ], "uin" : "21384"} ], "itemsPerPage" : 10, "page" : 0, "startIndex" : 1, "totalResults" : 3, "type" : ["http://purl.org/linked-data/api/vocab#ListEndpoint", "http://purl.org/linked-data/api/vocab#Page"]} }
