The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) does not currently intend to produce guidance for postal workers on preventing the potential impact of back injuries from low-level letter boxes. HSE already publishes a range of guidance to help employers understand how to assess and prevent the risks of musculoskeletal injuries to their workers.

The Ministry of Housing Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) has carried out ergonomic research which includes a study on reaching letter boxes. The Building Safety Regulator is providing advice to the MHCLG on this research, including what changes may be necessary to the Building Regulations and its associated guidance. The research will be published in due course.
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/163", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Sir Stephen Timms"} } , "answeringMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "East Ham"} , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Sir Stephen Timms"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2024-10-14", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2024-10-14T16:04:03.773Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "29"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "Work and Pensions"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "Work and Pensions"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2024-10-08", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "Letter Boxes"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "1"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25259", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Commons"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, if she will take steps to ask the Health and Safety Executive to issue guidance on the potential impact of low-level letter boxes on back injuries among postal workers.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4667", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Mike Amesbury"} } , "tablingMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Runcorn and Helsby"} , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "Mike Amesbury"} ], "uin" : "7845"} , {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1732358", "AnsweringBody" : [{"_value" : "Department of Health and Social Care"} ], "answer" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1732358/answer", "answerText" : {"_value" : "
No assessment has been made on the adequacy of access to Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) in the Halton and Cheshire West and Cheshire. The Government is committed to improving access to AEDs in public spaces, and reducing inequalities in access to these life saving devices. We have made a further £500,000 available from August 2024 to fulfil existing applications to the Department’s Community AED Fund. The criteria specified for the original grant continues to apply and will go to applications for AEDs in areas where there is the greatest need, including in areas of high footfall, hot spots for cardiac arrest, and areas that already have low access to AEDs.
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/1506", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Andrew Gwynne"} } , "answeringMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Gorton and Denton"} , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Andrew Gwynne"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2024-10-14", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2024-10-14T16:03:58.523Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "17"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "Health and Social Care"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "Health and Social Care"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2024-10-08", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "Defibrillators: Cheshire"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "1"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25259", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Commons"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, if he will make an assessment of the adequacy of access to defibrillators in (a) Halton and (b) Cheshire West and Cheshire.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4667", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Mike Amesbury"} } , "tablingMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Runcorn and Helsby"} , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "Mike Amesbury"} ], "uin" : "7846"} , {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1732025", "AnsweringBody" : [{"_value" : "Department for Business and Trade"} ], "answer" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1732025/answer", "answerText" : {"_value" : "
Growth is the government’s central economic mission and we are currently developing an Industrial Strategy which aims to drive growth across the UK through investment in key sectors and regions. We are also hosting the International Investment Summit in October, to bring together global investors and regional leaders to advance opportunities for investment and growth across the country. Additional measures to improve the business environment and increase investment into the UK will be announced at the summit.

For the North West specifically, we will support delivery of the Local Growth Plans. We will continue showcasing investment opportunities across the North West to potential investors, and provide account management services for investors already in the region to help them build and scale.
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4631", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Sarah Jones"} } , "answeringMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Croydon West"} , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Sarah Jones"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2024-10-10", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2024-10-10T14:30:38.073Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "214"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "Business and Trade"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "Business and Trade"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2024-10-07", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "Foreign Investment in UK: North West"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "1"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25259", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Commons"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask the Secretary of State for Business and Trade, what steps he is taking to increase foreign investment in the North West.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4667", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Mike Amesbury"} } , "tablingMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Runcorn and Helsby"} , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "Mike Amesbury"} ], "uin" : "7528"} , {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1732027", "AnsweringBody" : [{"_value" : "Department for Education"} ], "answer" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1732027/answer", "answerText" : {"_value" : "
The statutory duty to provide sufficient school places for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) sits with local authorities.

The department supports local authorities to meet this duty by providing annual capital funding. In March 2024, local authorities were notified of £850 million of investment in places for children and young people with SEND or who require alternative provision.

Local authorities can use this funding to deliver new places in mainstream and special schools, as well as other specialist settings. It can also be used to improve the suitability and accessibility of existing buildings.

Halton Council has received just under £5.5 million in capital funding through this route between 2022 and 2025. Cheshire West and Chester Council has received £11.6 million.

In summer 2023, the department began collecting annual data from local authorities on available capacity in special schools, SEND units and resourced provision. This data will help the department to more effectively support local authorities to fulfil their statutory duty to provide sufficient specialist places.
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4125", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Catherine McKinnell"} } , "answeringMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Newcastle upon Tyne North"} , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Catherine McKinnell"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2024-10-15", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2024-10-15T13:12:31.95Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "60"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "Education"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "Education"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2024-10-07", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "Special Educational Needs: Cheshire"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "1"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25259", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Commons"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask the Secretary of State for Education, whether she has had discussions with (a) Halton Council and (b) Cheshire West and Cheshire Council on the adequacy of SEND provision.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4667", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Mike Amesbury"} } , "tablingMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Runcorn and Helsby"} , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "Mike Amesbury"} ], "uin" : "7529"} , {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1732032", "AnsweringBody" : [{"_value" : "Department for Energy Security and Net Zero"} ], "answer" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1732032/answer", "answerText" : {"_value" : "
