The FCDO supports the multilateral system which regularly responds to flooding around the world. For example, we have recently provided £36 million of aid to the flood relief efforts in Pakistan, and we are longstanding partners of the UN Central emergency Response Fund (CERF), contributing more than $1.7 billion since 2006 and supporting their work including in response to flooding. The UK has also recently announced a commitment to triple our spend on climate adaptation finance, from £500 million in 2019 to £1.5 billion in 2025. This funding will help countries build their resilience to climate change impacts, including floods.
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4531", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Anne-Marie Trevelyan"} } , "answeringMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Berwick-upon-Tweed"} , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Anne-Marie Trevelyan"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2023-02-06", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2023-02-06T11:47:58.817Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "208"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2023-01-30", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "Developing Countries: Floods"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "1"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25259", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Commons"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, what steps his Department is taking to provide (a) short term aid, (b) flood defences and (c) other preventative measures to countries affected by flooding.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4131", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Jim Shannon"} } , "tablingMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Strangford"} , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "Jim Shannon"} ], "uin" : "135244"} , {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1581720", "AnsweringBody" : [{"_value" : "Department of Health and Social Care"} ], "answer" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1581720/answer", "answerText" : {"_value" : "

NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT), Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service, Northern Ireland Blood Transfusion Service and the Welsh Blood Service are responsible for raising awareness of blood donation in the United Kingdom.

Since September 2021, the science relating to blood, organ and stem cell donation is taught as part of the secondary school curriculum in England, aimed at promoting awareness of donation in young people.

NHSBT uses a range of media, marketing activity, donor and patient case studies, partnerships and engagement with faith organisations to raise awareness. NHSBT’s Community Investment Scheme committed £400,000 to support 35 grassroot, community and faith-based organisations to drive awareness, understanding and behaviour change.

NHSBT continues to invest and prioritise the diversification of the donor base, in particular, increasing donations from people of Black heritage, to support the changing demographics of NHS patients. NHSBT marked black history month launching it’s ‘Not Family, But Blood’ campaign with Marvel Studios. This high-profile campaign led to an additional 884 people of Black heritage signing up to donate on the first day.
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4679", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Neil O'Brien"} } , "answeringMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Harborough"} , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Neil O'Brien"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2023-02-14", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2023-02-14T14:46:42.623Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "17"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "Health and Social Care"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "Health and Social Care"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2023-01-30", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "Blood: Donors"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "1"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25259", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Commons"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what steps his Department are taking to encourage more blood donations across the UK.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4131", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Jim Shannon"} } , "tablingMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Strangford"} , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "Jim Shannon"} ], "uin" : "135245"} , {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1581721", "AnsweringBody" : [{"_value" : "Department for Transport"} ], "answer" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1581721/answer", "answerText" : {"_value" : "

The Department is funding the NHS Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (NHS AI Lab), which was created to accelerate the safe, ethical and effective adoption of AI in health and social care.

The NHS AI Lab has provided more than £100 million to 77 of the most promising AI technologies, through its Artificial Intelligence in Health and Care Award. The technologies are being tested and evaluated in 53 hospitals and support clinicians in diagnosis, monitoring disease and managing health conditions at home.

The NHS AI Lab is also working on projects focusing on streamlining regulation, to make it easier for the health and care system to deploy AI technologies as well as improving the route for AI vendors into the system.

In the absence of Northern Ireland Executive ministers, the Northern Ireland (Executive Formation etc.) Act 2022 provides Northern Ireland civil servants with the clarity they require to take the limited but necessary decisions to maintain delivery of public services and operate in the public interest. Specifically, in clause 3, subsections (1) and (3) remove the need for Ministers or an Executive Committee to be in place to enable the exercise of departmental functions by senior officers in Northern Ireland departments if they deem it in the public interest.

The accompanying guidance to the Act, published on 19 December 2022, helps NI departments determine whether exercising a function is in the public interest and lists the principles that they should take into account when making such a determination. The Government cannot and should not anticipate the decisions that civil servants will need to take under this Act. Consequently, the Government does not intend to comment on which decisions NI departments should be taking forward.

Health is a devolved matter. Access to regular sight tests is critical for eye health and early detection and access to treatments to prevent sight loss.
