We recognise that faith-based leaders can play a helpful role in promoting peace and reconciliation amongst the diverse ethnic and religious communities of Syria and Iraq. We regularly engage with faith leaders and faith-based Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) in the UK and the MENA region to discuss the situation of religious communities.

In Syria through our Conflict, Stability and Security Fund, we are supporting projects to promote community cohesion and dialogue between different ethnic and religious groups. However the ongoing violent conflict and displacement of Syrians from all ethnic and religious backgrounds throughout Syria, the region and beyond makes this work particularly challenging.

In Iraq, we are supporting Prime Minister Abadi and the Government of Iraq in its efforts to deliver the reforms and reconciliation needed to rebuild public trust in the Iraqi state and unite all Iraqis against extremism.
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/1201", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Alistair Burt"} } , "answeringMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "North East Bedfordshire"} , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Alistair Burt"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2018-04-30", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2018-04-30T16:30:21.257Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "16"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "Foreign and Commonwealth Office"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "Foreign and Commonwealth Office"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2018-04-19", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "Middle East: Religious Freedom"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "1"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25259", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Commons"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, what assessment he has made of the potential merits of using faith-based leaders as facilitators to promote peace and reconciliation amongst the ethnic and religious communities in Syria and Iraq.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4603", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Preet Kaur Gill"} } , "tablingMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Birmingham, Edgbaston"} , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "Preet Kaur Gill"} ], "uin" : "136620"} , {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/887053", "AnsweringBody" : [{"_value" : "Department of Health and Social Care"} ], "answer" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/887053/answer", "answerText" : {"_value" : "

The Department has made no assessment of the potential savings to be accrued to the public purse from the return of unused medicines to the National Health Service.

The Department is concerned about wastage from unused medicines and is keen to minimise unnecessary extra costs. However, it does not promote the reuse of medicines that have left the pharmacy and been returned to a pharmacy by patients, as it is not possible to guarantee the quality of a returned medicine on physical inspection alone. When medicines are returned from patients’ homes, there is no way of knowing how the medicines have been stored or handled.

The Government’s statutory Cycling and Walking Investment Strategy, published in April 2017, outlines £1.2 billion of funding that may be invested in cycling and walking over the period to 2021. Since its publication, the Government has made further support available for cycling and walking infrastructure, through the National Productivity Investment Fund, Transforming Cities Fund and Clean Air Fund. Ultimately, decisions for allocating funding for cycle paths are for local authorities. In line with the Strategy, the Department for Transport is in the process of updating its guidance for local authorities on designing good, safe cycling infrastructure.
