The department does not record data on the reason for deaths of care leavers.

We are committed to ensuring that care leavers are able to access the mental health support that they need to maintain positive emotional health and well-being. A joint Department of Health and Department for Education Expert Working Group has recently published its proposals for improving the mental health of looked after children and care leavers. A copy of their report is available at: https://www.scie.org.uk/children/care/mental-health/report.

Work to address the Expert Group’s findings is already underway. We are putting a record £1.4 billion into children and young people’s mental health and a further £3 million has been committed to support the recently published Children and Young People’s Mental Health Green Paper. We will now consider the Expert Working Group’s report in the context of the green paper with a view to taking further action.

The programme is approved by the Home Secretary before it is published.

The exercise of police powers such as Schedule 7 is already annually reviewed by the Independent Reviewer of Terrorism Legislation (IRTL), who reports on the operation of the Terrorism Act 2000 and powers including Schedule 7.

All police forces refer complaints alleging discriminatory use of Schedule 7 powers to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) for investigation. IPCC investigations are part of the evidence considered by the IRTL.

In his annual review of 2013 IRTL David Anderson QC reported that he had “no reason to believe that Schedule 7 powers are exercised in a racially discriminatory way”, a view he repeated in subsequent reports. The first report of the current IRTL Max Hill QC is yet to issue.
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/1561", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Mr Nick Hurd"} } , "answeringMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Ruislip, Northwood and Pinner"} , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Mr Nick Hurd"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2017-12-20", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2017-12-20T15:41:56.903Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "1"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "Home Office"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "Home Office"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2017-12-14", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "Stop and Search: Airports and Ports"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "1"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25259", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Commons"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, whether she will direct Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary to review (a) the use by the police of powers in Schedule 7 to the Terrorism Act 2007 to stop and search people at ports and airports and (b) whether those powers are used disproportionately on ethnic minority groups.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4671", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Afzal Khan"} } , "tablingMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Manchester, Gorton"} , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "Afzal Khan"} ], "uin" : "119582"} ], "itemsPerPage" : 10, "next" : "http://eldaddp.azurewebsites.net/answeredquestions.text?_page=1&max-dateTabled=2017-12-14&version=2", "page" : 0, "startIndex" : 1, "totalResults" : 29551, "type" : ["http://purl.org/linked-data/api/vocab#ListEndpoint", "http://purl.org/linked-data/api/vocab#Page"]} }
