Data showing how many people were imprisoned for non-payment of council tax in 2012, 2013 and 2014 are presented in the table below:

Notes:

These data are sourced from the Libra Management Information System (MIS). As such this data set is not subject to the same levels of quality assurance as national statistics

In extracting this data only offences of complaint for council tax committal application have been included where the court hearing date occurred within each year reported (i.e. between 1 January and 31 December).

It should also be noted that, although committals to prison are reported as occurring within a particular financial year, the non-payment of council tax itself may relate to a previous financial year or even a period covering more than one financial year.

Committal to prison for non-payment of council tax can be challenged through a judicial review in the High Court. The table below shows the number of judicial reviews relating to imprisonment for non-payment of council tax in 2012, 2013 and 2014, and the outcomes.

PCCs and chief officers make the decisions on what technology is procured and how it is used by officers at a local level. It is not for the Home Office to set targets or expectations. It is right that PCCs and their forces are free to invest in technology that aligns to local priorities and addresses the specific challenges they face. The majority of police forces are either already using Body Worn Video (BWV) on a day-to-day basis, or are in the process of rolling this technology out to their officers. The Home Office does not hold information as to how many officers are equipped with BWV. As part of the 2014/15 Police Innovation Fund (PIF), the Home Office awarded a total of £4m to eight bids relating to the roll-out of BWV. We supported the Police ICT Company to bring these eight bids together, with Nottinghamshire Police developing a BWV procurement framework, which is now available to all forces. Other forces either using, or considering the use of, the framework include: Merseyside, North Wales, Bedfordshire, Hampshire and the MPS. The value of PIF bids for BWV for 2013/14 was £1,567,625. Police forces also procure BWV outside of the Police Innovation Fund as part of their own digitisation programmes.
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/1091", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Lord Bates"} } , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Lord Bates"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2015-07-09", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2015-07-09T14:13:48.803Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "1"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "Home Office"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "Home Office"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2015-06-25", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "Police: Cameras"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "2"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25277", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Lords"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask Her Majesty’s Government how many police officers in England and Wales they expect to be equipped with body-worn camera technology by the end of 2016.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "true", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/2671", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Lord Harris of Haringey"} } , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "Lord Harris of Haringey"} ], "uin" : "HL832"} ], "itemsPerPage" : 10, "next" : "http://eldaddp.azurewebsites.net/answeredquestions.text?tablingMemberPrinted.=Lord+Harris+of+Haringey&_page=1&session.=2015%2F16&max-dateTabled=2016-01-18", "page" : 0, "startIndex" : 1, "totalResults" : 21, "type" : ["http://purl.org/linked-data/api/vocab#ListEndpoint", "http://purl.org/linked-data/api/vocab#Page"]} }
