The Vaccine Taskforce is procuring vaccines for the whole of the United Kingdom, including Scotland. The Secretary of State for Health and Social Care meets weekly with counterparts in the devolved administrations for discussions of key COVID-19 issues across all four nations. We are working closely with the devolved administrations to enable there to be an aligned approach to COVID-19 vaccine communications across the United Kingdom. We are developing communications campaigns to increase confidence in the safety of vaccines and the COVID-19 vaccine in particular and support the operational deployment when a vaccine is ready. Testing capacity through the National Testing Programme is allocated to each nation of the United Kingdom on the basis of population share.<\/p>
The Government is providing COVID-19 testing and test processing in support of NHS Scotland. This includes six regional test sites, more than 25 test sites in local communities, around 20 mobile testing units and the Glasgow Lighthouse Laboratory. The Government announced on 7 April 2020 that, as General Register Offices were closed or operating at a reduced capacity during the COVID-19 outbreak, HM Revenue and Customs would allow parents to claim Child Benefit for their newborns without having to register their child\u2019s birth first, to ensure they did not miss out on Child Benefit payments. Child Benefit can be backdated for up to three months.<\/p>
