Since 2014-15, MoJ has invested almost £6.5 million of funding to support litigants in person in the civil and family courts through the Litigants in Person Support Strategy. The strategy works with a range of partners across England and Wales in the advice, voluntary and pro bono sectors to provide practical support for litigants in person. This includes online and self-help resources, as well as access to free or affordable legal advice and representation, where possible. For example, the Support Strategy continues to work with with the North East Law Centre in Newcastle Upon-Tyne to extend its reach and receive referrals from across the region, including from non-specialist services such as GP surgeries, and increase awareness of the expert advice available to litigants in person in the area.

In February 2019, we published the Legal Support Action Plan which included a commitment to enhancing support for litigants in person. This will be achieved by increasing the funding provided to the Litigants in Person Support Strategy to £3m a year, for the next two years. We are particularly interested in focusing this additional investment on broadening the evidence base on how the services we are delivering to litigants in person can be made even more effective.
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/3926", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Paul Maynard"} } , "answeringMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Blackpool North and Cleveleys"} , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Paul Maynard"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2019-05-16", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2019-05-16T16:15:13.623Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "54"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "Justice"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "Justice"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2019-05-13", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "Domestic Abuse: North West Durham"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "1"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25259", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Commons"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask the Secretary of State for Justice, what support (a) under the Litigants in Person Support Strategy and (b) through the additional grant funding announced in February 2019 will be offered to (i) victims of domestic abuse and (ii) other people from the North West Durham constituency participating in family court proceedings in (A) Durham and (B) Darlington.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4665", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Laura Pidcock"} } , "tablingMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "North West Durham"} , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "Laura Pidcock"} ], "uin" : "253724"} , {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1121866", "AnsweringBody" : [{"_value" : "Home Office"} ], "answer" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1121866/answer", "answerText" : {"_value" : "

Acting on the findings of the last year’s Government consultation on powers for dealing with unauthorised development and encampments, where the majority of respondents believed that the Government should consider criminalising unauthorised encampments, the Home Office launched a review into whether this could be achieved.

Banks are under no obligation in law to inform customers of the reasons for an account closure.

In addition, under s333A of the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002, it is a criminal offence for a person who has made a disclosure to the appropriate authorities under Part 7 (in relation to suspicions of money laundering) to inform the customer that they have done so, where that could prejudice an investigation. This applies to banks, where an account closure is the result of suspected criminal activity. Individual banks are responsible for compliance with this obligation.

UK Visas and Immigration are rolling out a new application platform across all application routes. The new application forms have been built to comply with the Government Digital Service standard, which in turn ensures compliance with wider standards on usability and accessibility.

Extensive testing has taken place with real users of the service, observing how they interact with the forms and adapting the design and questions in accordance with feedback from those testing sessions. In addition, we offer Assisted Digital support for customers who have difficulty completing online immigration applications, for example, if they do not have the appropriate access, skills or confidence to complete an online application without assistance.

Support is provided over the phone or face-to-face in locations across the UK, in a library or other voluntary sector centre or by a home visit from a tutor. This service has been available since September 2017 to customers who are based in the UK and has recently been extended to include the EU Settlement Scheme.
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4048", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Caroline Nokes"} } , "answeringMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Romsey and Southampton North"} , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Caroline Nokes"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2019-03-11", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2019-03-11T16:37:52.737Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "1"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "Home Office"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "Home Office"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2019-03-06", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "Visas: Applications"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "1"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25259", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Commons"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, what assessment he has made of the accessibility of online visa applications.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4665", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Laura Pidcock"} } , "tablingMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "North West Durham"} , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "Laura Pidcock"} ], "uin" : "229242"} ], "itemsPerPage" : 10, "next" : "http://eldaddp.azurewebsites.net/answeredquestions.text?tablingMemberPrinted.=Laura+Pidcock&_page=1&max-date=2019-05-22", "page" : 0, "startIndex" : 1, "totalResults" : 92, "type" : ["http://purl.org/linked-data/api/vocab#ListEndpoint", "http://purl.org/linked-data/api/vocab#Page"]} }
