We follow developments in Kashmir closely. Officials from our High Commissions in Delhi and Islamabad regularly discuss the situation in Kashmir with the governments of both India and Pakistan, and travel to the region periodically to see the situation on the ground for themselves.<\/p>
The long standing position of the UK is that it is for India and Pakistan to find a lasting resolution to the situation in Kashmir, taking into account the wishes of the Kashmiri people. It is not for the UK to prescribe a solution or to act as a mediator. We encourage both sides to maintain positive dialogue, but the pace and scope of this is for them to determine.<\/p>

The government has committed to increasing the personal allowance to £12,500 and the higher rate threshold to £50,000 by the end of the parliament, enabling people to keep more of the money they earn by paying less income tax. 8 out of 10 working households will be better off as a result of changes announced at this Budget to the personal allowance, National Living Wage and welfare.<\/p>

Medicines Pharmacy and Industry Group (MPIG) is part of the Department\u2019s Innovation, Growth and Technology Directorate, and leads policy for the Department on pharmaceuticals, the medicines supply chain, and the role of pharmacies (including prescription charges). MPIG is responsible for:<\/p>

- the delivery of the medicines pricing schemes including the Pharmaceutical Price Regulation Scheme;<\/p>
<\/p>
- the delivery of frameworks for medicines procurement in secondary care;<\/p>
<\/p>
- sponsorship role for two of the Department\u2019s arm\u2019s length bodies;<\/p>
<\/p>
- the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence; and<\/p>
<\/p>
- the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency.<\/p>

<\/p>
<\/p>
The key objective of MPIG is to support the safe, efficient and effective access to and use of medicines in the National Health Service.<\/p>

The delivery of MPIG against plan is assessed internally through the Department\u2019s Quarterly Corporate Accountability Review system. The overall financial position and performance of the Department is published in the Departmental Annual Report.<\/p>
