The Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) will not affect the way the United Kingdom Government runs the National Health Service. It has been made clear by negotiators from both the United States and the European Union that it is up to the UK alone to decide how the NHS is run and any assertion that TTIP will undermine the Government\u2019s control of the NHS is a red herring.<\/p>

The TTIP could offer great benefits to British business and for British jobs. Pupil premium funding is allocated to state-funded schools for each financial year rather than by school year, primarily on the basis of the number of pupils recorded in the January school census as having been registered for free school meals (FSM) at any point in the last 6 years. A smaller proportion of pupils attract the pupil premium on the basis of being looked after, or having left care through adoption or under a Special Guardianship, Residence or Child Arrangements Order.<\/p>
The Department for Education has published illustrative pupil premium funding allocations for the financial year 2014-15, based on census data from 2013. Final allocations for 2014-15 will be published later in the year, based on pupil data gathered through the January 2014 school census and the spring 2014 children looked after data return (and also the October 2014 school census, for adopted and other previously looked after pupils who were not recorded as such in the January 2014 school census).<\/p>
From the data on which the published illustrative allocations for 2014-15 are based, the Department estimates that 430,350 pupils in reception, year 1 and year 2 will attract pupil premium funding on the basis of having been registered for FSM at any point in the last 6 years.<\/p>

The new Employment Tribunal rules of procedure, which implemented the recommendations of the Underhill Review, were implemented on 29 July 2013. These rules allow tribunals to identify weak or vexatious claims at an early stage through an initial sift and to manage them effectively through measures such as deposit orders. Greater flexibility to apply a deposit order to parts of a claim or response helps to manage the expectations of claimants as to the strength of their claim and encourage them to consider more carefully what parts of their claim they want to take forward.<\/p>

The annual limit, together with other reforms the Government has made since 2010, is helping to deliver an immigration system which works in the national interest: welcoming migrant workers who will contribute to economic growth, while reducing numbers to a more sustainable level and eliminating abuse.
The limit was last formally reviewed in 2012 by the Migration Advisory Committee, who recommended no change to its level. The Government has
committed to maintaining the limit at 20,700 places per year for at least the remainder of this parliament, to provide businesses with a period of policy stability.
The limit is working effectively and we continue to monitor its operation. Non-EU net migration was 218,000 in September 2010. We have cut it to 162,000 \u2013 down 56,000 under this Government. At the same time, the limit has not prevented businesses recruiting people with the skills they need.<\/p>

In 2012 the Department for Education published \u2018Safeguarding Children across Services: Messages from Research\u2019 by Ward and Davies. This report pulls together a wide-ranging body of existing research on safeguarding children from abuse and neglect and provides a valuable summary of the impact of neglect on children, including their mental health.[1]<\/p>
In 2013 the Department published a new analysis of the association between stressful life events and adolescent outcomes, drawing on two existing longitudinal studies; the Millennium Cohort Study (MCS) and the Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children (ALSPAC).[2] More recently, we published an up-to-date review by Ward et al on the impact of maltreatment on child development, including social, emotional and behavioural development.[3]<\/p>
Earlier this year the Department published a study focusing specifically on adopted children and their well-being post-adoption.[4] We are currently finalising a similar report focusing specifically on children cared for by Special Guardians; this is due to be published later in the year.<\/p>
The Department has commissioned a follow-up for one of the studies originally funded by the Safeguarding Research Initiative: the \u2018Significant Harm of Infants study\u2019.<\/em> This study was set up to explore how decisions made by practitioners have influenced the life pathways of 57 young children who were identified as suffering, or likely to suffer, significant harm before their first birthdays.
