The 1967 Abortion Act requires that two doctors certify in good faith that there are lawful grounds for an abortion, based on an understanding of the facts of a woman's case. Any change to this requirement would require a change in the Abortion Act and this is a matter for Parliament.

The Department will be issuing guidance shortly to all those involved in abortion care about compliance with the Abortion Act.

Abortion on the grounds of gender alone is illegal.

On 21 May 2013, the Department published analysis of birth ratios in the United Kingdom. This found that, when broken down by the mothers' country of birth including those born in China and India, birth ratios in no group are statistically different from the range that we would expect to see naturally occurring. The UK birth ratio is within normal limits; that is to say 105 male births per 100 female births. The full report can be found on the Gov.uk web site; enter ‘gender birth ratios'.

However, the Department remains vigilant for anecdotal evidence of sex-selective abortion.

The Department has not made an assessment of birth ratios or the incidence of sex-selective abortions in China and India.

I cannot comment on intelligence matters.

The list of proscribed terrorist organisations can be found at:
https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/301777/ProscribedOrganisationsApril14.pdf
Proscription is not targeted at any particular faith or social grouping, but is based on our assessment of an organisation's concern in terrorism. Over 60 organisations are currently proscribed including 14 organisations connected to Northern Ireland and organisations seeking to advance a variety of other religious, ethnic, political and nationalist causes.

The Extremism Task Force, which was set up by the Prime Minister following the murder of Drummer Lee Rigby, looked closely at whether the government was doing all it could to confront extremism and radicalisation It concluded that it is often too easy for extremist preachers and groups to spread extremist views which can lead people into terrorism. The Government is therefore considering the case for new powers to ban groups which seek to undermine democracy or use hate speech.

The British Government is aware of 559 people who have been sentenced to death in Egypt during 2014, including 529 by a court in Minya on 24 March. We are deeply concerned by these sentences. We have raised this issue with the Egyptian government, most recently during the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, my Rt. Hon. Friend the Member for Richmond (Yorks) (Mr Hague)'s meeting with Foreign Minister Fahmy on 2 April. The Foreign Secretary asked the Egyptian government to review these sentences as a matter of urgency and to ensure that the individuals' human and legal rights were properly upheld.
