The Government is committed to giving as many young people as possible the chance to take part in this life-changing opportunity. The programme will continue to take place in every English Local Authority in 2015. 2014 saw 504 young people take part in Northern Ireland and 364 young people take part in Wales.<\/p>

The UK fully supports the statements made by the United Nations Secretary-General and the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights which strongly condemned the recent killing of civilians by the terrorist group Boko Haram in Baga, Nigeria. Boko Haram continues to wreak havoc across North East Nigeria, causing suffering in communities of different faiths and ethnicities. <\/em><\/p> The initial investigation into the loss over eastern Ukraine of Malaysian Airlines flight MH17 with 298 passengers and crew onboard was supported by the Department\u2019s Air Accident Investigation Branch, and they continue to play a part in the ongoing accident investigation. The Dutch authorities are now conducting a criminal investigation into the exact causes of the incident. £6.8 million of the funding being announced today has been allocated to local authorities so that they can expand their programmes of canvassing and other activities aimed at encouraging people in their areas to register to vote. Up to £2.5 million will be used to fund wider activity, including working with national organisations to encourage groups who are not as well represented on the electoral register in general, such as young people including students and overseas voters.<\/p>
The temporary exclusion power will be just one of a number of tools available for managing the threat posed by such individuals. The Secretary of State will be able to impose an order if she reasonably suspect that an individual is or
has been involved in terrorism-related activity while outside the UK, and considers that such an order is an appropriate tool to manage the threat he or she poses to the UK.
For operational security reasons, I cannot comment specifically on how many individuals might be subject to temporary exclusion orders. This will be a discretionary power which will be considered for use on a case by case basis.<\/p>
