Although new cases have declined, cholera is likely to resurge during the upcoming rainy season. Estimates put 74% of districts (representing 22 million people) at risk.<\/p><p> <\/p><p>The reason that cholera, a treatable condition which stems from using contaminated water, is so difficult to control is because systems like public health and water and sanitation have broken down.<\/p><p> <\/p><p>DFID provided £8 million in the financial year 2017/18 to UNICEF and the International Organization for Migration for prevention, for example providing households with chlorine tablets for drinking water, and treatment for those who are affected. We are now encouraging the UN to have a robust preparedness plan for the upcoming rainy season and have helped to fund the planned cholera vaccination campaign through our core-funding to GAVI.<\/p>"}
