We are continuing to work with the Department for Health and Social Care (DHSC) to explore the case for testing rough sleepers for COVID-19 when they come in off the streets. Yemen has suffered from one of the worst cholera outbreaks ever recorded, at almost 1.1 million suspected cases. Although new cases have declined, cholera is likely to resurge during the upcoming rainy season. Estimates put 74% of districts (representing 22 million people) at risk.

The reason that cholera, a treatable condition which stems from using contaminated water, is so difficult to control is because systems like public health and water and sanitation have broken down.

DFID provided £8 million in the financial year 2017/18 to UNICEF and the International Organization for Migration for prevention, for example providing households with chlorine tablets for drinking water, and treatment for those who are affected. We are now encouraging the UN to have a robust preparedness plan for the upcoming rainy season and have helped to fund the planned cholera vaccination campaign through our core-funding to GAVI.
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/1091", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Lord Bates"} } , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Lord Bates"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2018-03-27", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2018-03-27T16:03:24.07Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "20"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "International Development"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "International Development"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2018-03-13", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "Yemen: Cholera"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "2"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25277", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Lords"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask Her Majesty's Government what assessment they have made of the causes of the ongoing cholera epidemic in Yemen; and what assistance they are providing to the more than one million people affected.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/259", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for The Marquess of Lothian"} } , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "The Marquess of Lothian"} ], "uin" : "HL6308"} , {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/714287", "AnsweringBody" : [{"_value" : "Department for Education"} ], "answer" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/714287/answer", "answerText" : {"_value" : "

The filters are changed in accordance with the manufacturer's routine maintenance schedules. It is in the operator's interest to change the filters in accordance with the schedule; with time the pores in the filters become congested with material.

This congestion can increase the efficiency of the filter in removing particles from the air, but also increases the resistance to air flow.
