<\/p>
As part of its plans to manage the closure and return of the Morton Hall immigration removal centre to Her Majesty\u2019s Prison and Probation Service, the Home Office considered a number of sites for a new immigration removal centre (IRC). Specifically, sites such as the former Campsfield IRC were considered and the Home Office also engaged in discussions with the Ministry of Justice on the availability of surplus sites.<\/p>
<\/p>
Given the timescales and value for money considerations, acquiring the vacant Hassockfield site to open as an IRC for women was considered the most cost-effective option for maintaining immigration detention capacity.<\/p>
An Equality Impact Assessment (EIA) will be completed for opening of Hassockfield IRC in line with Public Sector Equality Duties. To ensure that decisions about the development of the site have due regard to eliminating discrimination and inequality, the EIA for Hassockfield will remain ongoing as plans progress to completion. The Home Office will publish the completed EIA in due course.<\/p>"}

We remain committed to reducing crowding across the prison estate. In the year to March 2019, the proportion of prisoners held in crowded accommodation was 22.5%, down from 24.2% the previous year and levels of around 25% experienced since 2004.<\/p>
The Prime Minister\u2019s pledge to invest up to £2.5 billion to create 10,000 additional prison places will have a positive impact on lowering the proportion of crowding in the prison estate, providing accommodation that is safe, decent and uncrowded. However, the extent to which the proportion of prisoners held in crowded accommodation will reduce will be dependent on future prison population levels.<\/p>
Sentencing must match the severity of the crime and protecting the public will always be our priority. The sentencing reforms announced by the Government will ensure serious violent and sexual offenders spend longer in prison. The impact on the prison population will build up gradually over a number of years, and we will ensure that we have enough places for offenders sent by the courts.<\/p>"}

The Electoral Commission intends to publish data on the number of new electors added to the register at the election in due course.<\/p>
The Government's manifesto re-affirms the commitment to deliver equal and updated boundaries and reduce the size of the House of Commons.<\/p>
Following laws already passed by Parliament, which provided that the current Boundary Review should be based on the electoral registers from 2015, the independent and impartial Boundary Commissions are consulting on their proposals to deliver the boundary changes, and they will submit their final proposals to Parliament in autumn 2018. These reforms will ensure fair and equal representation for the voting public across the United Kingdom.<\/p>
Equalising the size of constituencies in the Boundary Review will ensure everyone\u2019s vote will carry equal weight. Without such boundary reforms, MPs could end up representing constituencies based on data that is over 20 years\u2019 old, disregarding significant changes in demographics, house building and migration.<\/p>
