The UK Government has consistently raised our concerns about Mr Johal's case directly with the Government of India, including his allegations of torture and mistreatment, and his right to a fair trial. The UK Government regularly raises Mr Johal's case with Indian counterparts and will continue to do so. The Prime Minister raised Mr Johal's case with Prime Minister Modi on 9 September in the margins of the New Delhi G20 Leaders' Summit. Lord (Tariq) Ahmad of Wimbledon, Minister of State for South Asia, regularly raises Mr Johal's case with the Government of India, including with External Affairs Minister Jaishankar on 13 November. The former Foreign Secretary raised Mr Johal's case with Indian External Affairs Minister Jaishankar on 1 March. As Home Secretary he also raised Mr Johal's case with External Affairs Minister Jaishankar again on 13 November. The UK Government remains committed to seeing Mr Johal's case resolved as soon as possible.
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4531", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Anne-Marie Trevelyan"} } , "answeringMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Berwick-upon-Tweed"} , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Anne-Marie Trevelyan"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2023-12-22", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "groupedQuestionUIN" : {"_value" : "7094"} , "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2023-12-22T15:58:46.533Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "208"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2023-12-14", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "Jagtar Singh Johal"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "1"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25259", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Commons"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask the Minister of State, Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, whether he has had recent discussions with his Indian counterpart on the (a) detention of Jagtar Singh Johal, (b) length of his detention without charge and (c) allegations of his torture.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4638", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Mr Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi"} } , "tablingMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Slough"} , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "Mr Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi"} ], "uin" : "7106"} , {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1327800", "AnsweringBody" : [{"_value" : "Department of Health and Social Care"} ], "answer" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1327800/answer", "answerText" : {"_value" : "

The Office of the Secretary of State for Wales has no specific plans to mark International Men's Day 2019, but in the UK Government’s Domestic Abuse Bill we propose to create a statutory definition of domestic abuse that makes clear men can also be victims of this abhorrent crime. International Men’s Day also offers an opportunity to talk about work across Government to highlight how outcomes for men and boys can be improved.
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4086", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Alun Cairns"} } , "answeringMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Vale of Glamorgan"} , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Alun Cairns"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2019-11-05", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2019-11-05T13:03:17.637Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "28"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "Wales"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "Wales"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2019-10-29", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "Wales Office: International Men's Day"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "1"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25259", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Commons"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask the Secretary of State for Wales, what plans his Department has to mark International Men's Day on 19 November 2019.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/1565", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Sir Philip Davies"} } , "tablingMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Shipley"} , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "Philip Davies"} ], "uin" : "7106"} ], "itemsPerPage" : 10, "page" : 0, "startIndex" : 1, "totalResults" : 4, "type" : ["http://purl.org/linked-data/api/vocab#ListEndpoint", "http://purl.org/linked-data/api/vocab#Page"]} }
