The Government currently has no plans to make changes to the current monitoring regime for testing food for pesticide residues. The Government’s priority regarding pesticides is to ensure that they will not harm people or pose unacceptable risks to the environment. The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) employs a wide range of monitoring and intelligence-led enforcement activities to ensure that the supply and use of pesticides complies with legal requirements. This includes a robust annual pesticide residue monitoring programme which is representative of the country’s food supply.

All agri-food products imported into the UK under existing and future free trade agreements must comply with our rules on pesticide maximum residue levels (MRLs). The regulations set strict controls on the amounts of pesticide residues that are permitted in food to ensure the safety of consumers.  The maximum permitted residue levels are always set below, and usually well below, the level considered to be safe for consumers.
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4055", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Sir Mark Spencer"} } , "answeringMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Sherwood"} , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Mark Spencer"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2022-09-16", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2022-09-16T12:18:06.93Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "13"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "Environment, Food and Rural Affairs"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "Environment, Food and Rural Affairs"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2022-09-02", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "Agricultural Products: UK Trade with EU"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "1"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25259", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Commons"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, what plans his Department has to increase testing of produce entering the UK from the EU for pesticide residues.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4382", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Daniel Zeichner"} } , "tablingMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Cambridge"} , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "Daniel Zeichner"} ], "uin" : "45361"} , {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1194742", "AnsweringBody" : [{"_value" : "Department for Transport"} ], "answer" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1194742/answer", "answerText" : {"_value" : "

The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) has suspended most motorcycle tests to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus. But it is continuing to provide emergency tests for those whose work is critical to the COVID-19 response.

Motorcycle approved training bodies (ATB) can continue to provide compulsory basic training (CBT) for critical workers.

Trainers should ask their pupils to bring appropriate ID with them to demonstrate the need for the training – for example, an ID badge, payslip or letter from their employer.

It is the responsibility of the trainer, and the pupil, to consider the risks to their health before deciding if the training is essential.

All ATBs should put in place appropriate measures, in line with the latest Public Health England and Cabinet Office guidance, to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Motorcycle manoeuvring areas will be available for any essential training. The DVSA will contact ATBs who have a module 1 motorcycle test booked.

CBT, direct access scheme (DAS) or DVSA enhanced rider scheme instructor registration certificates that are due to expire before the end of June 2020, will automatically be renewed.
