Where the evidence supports the case, we will not hesitate to introduce measures to limit the use of single-use plastics, as we have done with single-use plastic straws, stirrers, and cotton buds. Such an approach will continue to be applied to our upcoming policy measures, like our proposed ban of single-use plastic plates, cutlery and polystyrene food and drinks containers, to make sure we have the best overall impact on our natural environment.

Since 10 January 2020, UK cryptoasset exchange providers and custodian wallet providers have been in scope of the UK’s Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing Regulations (MLRs) and Part 7 of the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002. This means that firms in the UK which exchange cryptoassets for fiat currency and vice versa are required to register with the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), carry out appropriate checks on their customers, and monitor for and report suspicious activity. These can be analysed by the UK Financial Intelligence Unit and made available to law enforcement agencies to investigate and take action when appropriate.

The government has proposed to further extend the requirements placed on cryptoasset firms under the MLRs. HM Treasury recently consulted on the implementation of Recommendation 16 of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) for transfers of cryptoassets.

Pending the outcome of the consultation, the implementation of this Recommendation would extend the information sharing and record keeping requirements that apply to bank transfers to transfers of cryptoassets, and thereby further assist in the prevention and detection of money laundering.
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4689", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Lord Agnew of Oulton"} } , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Lord Agnew of Oulton"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2021-12-14", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2021-12-14T16:51:18.827Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "14"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "Treasury"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "Treasury"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2021-11-30", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "Cryptocurrencies"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "2"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25277", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Lords"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask Her Majesty's Government what steps they are taking to monitor fiat currency to cryptocurrency (1) deposits, and (2) withdrawals, to prevent cryptocurrencies from being used to (a) launder money, and (b) hide transactions in illicit markets.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4308", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for The Lord Bishop of St Albans"} } , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "The Lord Bishop of St Albans"} ], "uin" : "HL4579"} , {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1196868", "AnsweringBody" : [{"_value" : "Department for Transport"} ], "answer" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1196868/answer", "answerText" : {"_value" : "

We expect all schools to offer a broad and balanced education consisting of an academically rigorous, knowledge-based curriculum, which is supported by the development of essential life skills such as confidence, teamwork and resilience.

Schools are also encouraged to offer extra-curricular activities aimed at developing these skills through after-school clubs and through programmes such as the National Citizen Service (NCS) and the Cadet Expansion Programme (CEP). The government will be investing over £1 billion during the next four years to make NCS a rite of passage for many 16 and 17 year olds.

The government has committed £50 million of LIBOR funding to the CEP to deliver 500 cadet units in schools across the UK by April 2020. Cadet units in schools provide extraordinary opportunities for career and personal development for pupils and staff alike. In October 2017, the department announced a £22 million Essential Life Skills programme in the 12 ‘Opportunity Areas’. As the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, my right hon. Friend the Member for Runnymede and Weybridge (Mr Hammond), made clear in his press statement on 25 January, we condemn in the strongest terms Russian-backed separatist attacks in Mariupol on 24 January which killed at least 30 innocent civilians, including children, and wounded many others. Recent announcements by the separatist leaders of further offensives, and their blatant refusal to abide by the ceasefire, raise serious questions about the commitments they made at Minsk. We call on Russia to stop its material support to the separatists immediately, and use its considerable influence over the separatist leadership to stop these indiscriminate attacks. The Foreign Secretary's messages have been reiterated in all meetings between UK and Russian officials in both Moscow and London since the separatist attacks in Mariupol.
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/3474", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Baroness Anelay of St Johns"} } , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Baroness Anelay of St Johns"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2015-02-12", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2015-02-12T14:15:52.423Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "16"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "Foreign and Commonwealth Office"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "Foreign and Commonwealth Office"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2015-02-02", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "Russia: Ukraine"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "2"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25277", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Lords"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask Her Majesty’s Government what representations they have made to the government of Russia following the shelling of Mariupol in Ukraine on 26 January.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/2018", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Lord Hylton"} } , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "Lord Hylton"} ], "uin" : "HL4579"} ], "itemsPerPage" : 10, "page" : 0, "startIndex" : 1, "totalResults" : 7, "type" : ["http://purl.org/linked-data/api/vocab#ListEndpoint", "http://purl.org/linked-data/api/vocab#Page"]} }
