The main UK government agencies involved in lending to developing countries are: UK Export Finance (UKEF) and (historic loans only) the Department for International Development (DfID). The Tobacco Products (Traceability and Security Features) Regulations 2019 include sanctions for non-compliance with the track and trace scheme. This includes the power to seize non-compliant tobacco products and deactivate an Economic Operator’s ID Code.

From 20 May 2019, businesses will be unable to legally buy or sell tobacco products without a valid ID Code. These sanctions will help protect legitimate business from rogue operators selling illicit tobacco products.

HMRC recognises that businesses will need time to become familiar with the new arrangements. The UK is deeply concerned about the spread of anti-vaccine misinformation abroad and its potential to undermine the hard-fought gains that have been made in protecting children from vaccine preventable diseases and outbreaks. We are tackling this misinformation through our strong support of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance. In both organisations, we work to ensure that they build trust and credibility with local communities as a core mandate.

UK support of Gavi has contributed to the safe vaccination of over 700 million children and our support to GPEI has helped reduce global cases of Wild Polio Virus by 99%. These programmes recognise the threat anti-vaccination misinformation poses to these successes and have taken active steps to address anti-vaccination movements through immunisation outreach teams and civil society groups, the first line of defence to countering false claims and misinformation. These groups monitor anti-vaccine sentiment at local levels and provide accurate information on the health benefits of immunisation. This approach provides a deeper understanding of the causes of any concerns and the populations most at risk from negative misinformation. Both organisations also support health workers with additional training to monitor and report adverse conditions and on how speak to parents about any concerns or fears.
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4107", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Dame Harriett Baldwin"} } , "answeringMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "West Worcestershire"} , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Harriett Baldwin"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2019-04-10", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2019-04-10T13:46:55.397Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "20"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "International Development"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "International Development"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2019-04-05", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "Vaccination: Disinformation"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "1"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25259", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Commons"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask the Secretary of State for International Development, what steps her Department is taking to tackle anti-vaccine misinformation abroad.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/308", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Mr Jim Cunningham"} } , "tablingMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Coventry South"} , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "Mr Jim Cunningham"} ], "uin" : "241383"} , {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1109703", "AnsweringBody" : [{"_value" : "Attorney General"} ], "answer" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1109703/answer", "answerText" : {"_value" : "

Leaving the EU with a deal remains the Government’s top priority. We have more people in work than ever before, with wages continuing to grow. DWP has contingency plans to ensure we can continue to provide our vital services to those who need them.

As the Prime Minister has made clear, the best way forward is for the UK to leave the EU in an orderly way with a good deal and the Government is working to deliver legal certainty on the UK’s future relationship with the EU. However, as a responsible Government, we continue to prepare appropriately for all scenarios.
