The Department for Education is asking schools, like other employers across the public sector, to contribute more towards their employees’ pensions to ensure that the cost of public sector pension schemes do not fall unfairly on taxpayers. Our protection of the core schools budget in real terms means that schools are well-placed to cope with changes in their costs in 2015-16. The Department has also deferred the introduction of the increase to September 2015, giving schools an additional five months to plan how they will meet the additional pensions cost.

In addition, the Chancellor confirmed that the next spending review will take into account the cost to employers of the reforms to the Teachers’ Pension Scheme and the implications for National Insurance.
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/1473", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Mr David Laws"} } , "answeringMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Yeovil"} , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Mr David Laws"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2014-10-27", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2014-10-27T11:01:14.1320255Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "60"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "Education"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "Education"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2014-10-22", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "Teachers: Pensions"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "1"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25259", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Commons"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask the Secretary of State for Education, if her Department will provide funding for schools and colleges providing education for young people under the age of 19 to meet the additional costs arising from the (a) additional employer contribution as set out in the Teachers' Pensions (Miscellaneous Amendments) (No. 2) Regulations 2014 and (b) higher national insurance contributions which will be paid from 1 April 2016 as a result of the Pension Act 2014; and if she will make a statement.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4243", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Dan Jarvis"} } , "tablingMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Barnsley Central"} , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "Dan Jarvis"} ], "uin" : "211581"} , {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/100469", "AnsweringBody" : [{"_value" : "House of Commons Commission"} ], "answer" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/100469/answer", "answerText" : {"_value" : "

The House of Commons Commission initially committed itself to a reduction in the Administration Resource Estimate in December 2009. The following year this was restated as an intention to reduce the Estimate to £210 million by 2014/15 from a baseline of £231 million for 2010/11.(a) Taking forecast inflation into account, this represented a reduction of 17% in real terms. In December 2013 the Commission agreed an Administration Estimate for 2014/15 of £201.3 million – allowing for transfers between Estimates and other adjustments, this was £2 million below the target set in 2010.

The Finance and Services Committee will, on Tuesday 28 October, be publishing its first report of the session, entitled House of Commons Financial Plan 2015–16 to 2018–19, including draft Estimates for 2015–16 (HC 757), which provides further detail. I shall be approaching the Backbench Business Committee to request a debate on the report before the Committee gives its advice on the 2015/16 Estimate to the Commission in December. This would give all hon. Members a chance to discuss and contribute to the financial plan.

Note: (a) In December 2009 the Commission agreed an Estimate for 2010/11 of £258 million. However, having taken account of the transfer of staff to IPSA and various accounting adjustments, this was reduced to £231 million. Agreement of an initial, in-year savings package by the Commission in June 2010 meant that it actually laid an Estimate for 2010/11 of £219 million.
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/1399", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Viscount Thurso"} } , "answeringMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross"} , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "John Thurso"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2014-10-27", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2014-10-27T10:29:27.414904Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "18"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "House of Commons Commission"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "House of Commons Commission"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2014-10-22", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "House of Commons Commission"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "1"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25259", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Commons"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask the hon.
