We work closely with partners to understand the impact of UK aid spending, including in Yemen. Our focus remains on protecting and prioritising the most vulnerable and ensuring our aid is delivered in the most effective and efficient way. Our aid to Yemen this financial year is feeding 240,000 of the most vulnerable Yemenis every month, supporting 400 healthcare clinics and provided clean water for 1.6 million people. We also provided one-off cash support to 1.5 million of Yemen's poorest households to help them buy food and basic supplies.
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4366", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for James Cleverly"} } , "answeringMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Braintree"} , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "James Cleverly"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2021-12-09", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2021-12-09T15:51:04.75Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "208"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2021-12-06", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "Yemen: International Assistance"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "1"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25259", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Commons"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, whether her Department has carried out an assessment of the impact of the reduction in international aid to Yemen.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "true", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4571", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Gill Furniss"} } , "tablingMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Sheffield, Brightside and Hillsborough"} , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "Gill Furniss"} ], "uin" : "87797"} , {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1385401", "AnsweringBody" : [{"_value" : "Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office"} ], "answer" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1385401/answer", "answerText" : {"_value" : "

The UK regularly engages with international partners and the UN to co-ordinate the humanitarian response in Yemen and to discuss ways to improve the conditions for NGOs on the ground. The most recent meeting was the Senior Humanitarian Officials meeting on 1 June. On 5 May, G7 Foreign and Development Ministers, through their London Ministerial meeting communiqué and the Famine Prevention and Humanitarian Crises compact, confirmed their commitment to provide humanitarian funding to Yemen and other humanitarian crises. They further called on all parties in Yemen to agree to UN proposals for an immediate ceasefire, the free flow of imports through Red Sea ports, the reopening of Sana'a airport, full humanitarian access and the resumption of inclusive political talks. In September, under UK leadership, the five permanent members of the UN Security Council, plus Germany, Kuwait and Sweden, met and signed a communiqué reiterating the need to increase the pace and scale of the humanitarian response. The Group was clear that a political settlement is the only way to address the humanitarian crisis, but given the risk of starvation faced by millions in Yemen, the Group called on all donors to disburse promptly their pledges to the UN humanitarian response. It also called on the conflict parties to facilitate safe, rapid and unhindered humanitarian access in compliance with Security Council Resolution 2451. The Government is deeply concerned by the ongoing conflict and humanitarian crisis in Yemen. We fully support the peace process led by the UN Special Envoy, Martin Griffiths, and urge the parties to engage constructively with this process. A political settlement is the only way to bring long-term stability to Yemen and to address the worsening humanitarian crisis.

The UK supports the Saudi-led Coalition military intervention, accepted by the UN Security Council, which came at the request of legitimate President Hadi who was forced to flee Sana’a following a rebel insurgency which took the capital by force and overthrew the legitimate Government of Yemen, as recognised by the international community. Saudi Arabia and its allies are responding to a crisis that was forced on them and that poses a grave threat to international peace and security.
