There has been regular Ministerial and senior official level engagement with the Government of Ukraine and with our allies and partners in the context of Russia's build-up of military forces in illegally-annexed Crimea and near the Ukrainian border. We continue to monitor the situation and are working with international partners to continue to de-escalate and reassure all sides.<\/p>
The Prime Minister spoke with President Putin on 25 October and President Zelenskyy on 1 November where he underscored the importance of Ukrainian sovereignty. He also spoke with Quad leaders (US, France and Germany) at the G20 summit on 30 October. The United Kingdom is providing substantial assistance to strengthen Ukraine\u2019s democracy and institutions as part of its reform programme. In July 2017, we hosted the inaugural Ukraine Reform Conference and have since participated in annual conferences including Toronto (2019). We are providing over £32 million of programme support, including at least £9.2m for reforms via the Good Governance Fund. The UK improved capacity of Central Election Commission training over 2,600 key electoral officials. In short we helped ensure that recent presidential and parliamentary elections were widely hailed as Ukraine\u2019s freest and fairest to date.
