The Secretary of State for Transport has regular discussions with the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government about how best to continue to provide the best possible transport solutions for the nation and its constituencies. Both the Road Investment Strategy and the current rail upgrade plan are focused on meeting the current and increasing demand, and stimulating economic growth by investing record amounts in transport links to communities. We use detailed models and evidence to support these investments and we are committed to continuing to do so in the future.<\/p>

An important aim for the second Road Investment Strategy, which is being developed, is to provide transport capacity to support new housing construction. The Department for Transport has responsibility for UK involvement in the transport element of the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) and the Trans European Transport Network programme (TEN-T). These schemes have provided co-funding for a number of public and private sector transport infrastructure projects.<\/p>

On 13th<\/sup> August my Right Honourable Friend, the Chancellor of the Exchequer made an announcement[1]<\/sup><\/sup>, outlining the Government position on EU funding schemes, which included a commitment to provide continuity of funding for UK participants in EU programmes.<\/p> <\/p> In line with that announcement, my Department will work closely with HM Treasury and concerned stakeholders to review EU funding schemes in the round, to ensure that any ongoing funding commitments best serve the UK\u2019s national interest, while ensuring appropriate investor certainty.<\/p> <\/p> <\/p> [1]<\/sup><\/sup> The following is a link to the announcement: <\/p>"}
