HM Passport Office (HMPO) received 6 complaints during the period 2014 to 2015 relating to the passport services offered on the website provided by UK Services and Support Limited. HMPO, in conjunction with the Cabinet Office Digital Service, is working with the Office of Fair Trading, the Advertising Standards Authority, search engine providers and various trading standard bodies to curtail the activities of websites that advertise their services in a way which may be misleading to the public. HMPO has specifically worked with
Google for sponsored adverts from third party websites to be taken down and not to appear above the natural search results.

The gov.uk website sets out expected turnaround times for applications made in
the UK and, on a country-by-country basis, for applications made overseas. HM
Passport Office aims to deal with applications within published turnaround
times, but this is a guideline only as there are a number of factors that can
affect how long it takes to process an application.
The premium and fast track service provide a guaranteed turnaround period of
four hours and seven days respectively on payment of an additional fee,
provided the applicant has submitted all the relevant information and the
necessary security requirements are met.

* First passports WIP also include lost/stolen passport numbers. It is not possible to split first passport and lost/stolen passport applications at the summary level available.

First passport : an applicant applying for their first passport. First time adult applicants are required to attend an interview to confirm their identity (irrespective of whether they are British born or newly naturalised). First time child applications are subject to additional checks compared to a child renewal application. First time applications therefore take longer to process than their renewal equivalents.

**WIP Definition Is the total number of applications in the system that have yet to be processed by HMPO and the application is not awaiting a customer response. WIP definition was revised in December 2014 to exclude the following applications: security check query and customer query.

WIP excludes: Online applications awaiting declaration forms, BPO/examiner/security check query raised, applicants awaiting interview (and dependents of adults awaiting interview) and applications that have been passed for issue but have yet to be printed. This was revised in December 2014 to exclude the following applications: security check query and customer query.

Entry Clearance applications are divided into settlement and non-settlement categories. The ‘settlement’ category includes applications to bring an adopted non-EU child to the UK. The service standard for processing ‘settlement’ applications is: 95 per cent within 12 weeks of the application date and 100 per cent within 24 weeks of the application date, however, there may be circumstances in complex cases where a decision will take longer.
The Home Office does not record whether the adopted child was a surrogate birth or not on the entry clearance case-working system in a way that can be used to produce statistic
