The Home Office has already made several changes which ensure alignment with the International Education Strategy.<\/p>
With the launch of the Student route on 5 October 2020, we have simplified and streamlined the previous Tier 4 route to make it easier for students to apply for further courses of study within the UK.<\/p>
We have extended the ability for students to apply for a further course of study within the UK to students studying at all types of institution, and to switch into the Student route from a greater number of other immigration routes.<\/p>
All students can apply for a further course within the UK, provided they are able to demonstrate they are progressing academically to a higher level of study.<\/p>
Students who have been in the UK for 12 months or more with valid permission on the date of application, are not required to demonstrate evidence of finances with their application.<\/p>
The Government has also removed the time limit on study above degree level, to enable talented students to undertake further qualifications.<\/p>
The launch of the Graduate route on 1 July will further enhance our offer to international students. Students who successfully complete an eligible qualification at degree level or above at a Higher Education Provider with a track record of compliance will be able to work or look for work at any skill level for two years (three for PhD students) after their studies. The Graduate route will enhance the UK as a destination for study and will attract and retain talented individuals to develop their careers within the UK.<\/p>
The Government will continue to work constructively between departments to support the delivery of the International Education Strategy.<\/p>
A welcome sign of the results of this are the number of international students applying for permission on the Student and Child Student routes has recovered strongly despite the Covid-19 pandemic, in the year ending March 2021, there were 250,683 sponsored students granted permission.<\/p>"}

It is a core principle of the Graduate route that someone must have spent some time studying in the UK.<\/p>
As we have stated for some time, in light of the impact Covid-19 has had on international students those who began studying overseas in Autumn 2020 and who enter the UK before 6 April 2021 to complete their course will be eligible for the Graduate route if they meet the requirements.<\/p>
On 24 December we published further guidance confirming those who begin study overseas in January 2021 will also be eligible for the route if they enter the UK to complete their course before 27 September 2021 and meet the requirements.<\/p>
Any period of distance learning in the current academic year will not count against eligible students who graduate after 2021, providing they complete their course in the UK under the Student route. Those who do not complete their studies in the UK will be ineligible.<\/p>"}

Biometrics play a significant role in delivering security and facilitation in the border and immigration system. They enable quick and robust identity assurance and suitability checks on foreign nationals subject to immigration control.<\/p>
<\/p>
As restrictions continue to be lifted by governments, overseas VACs are reopening, enabling students to apply for the required visa to study in the UK.\u202f As centres reopen, details of these will be published on our commercial partner websites. As of 29th June, 113 visa application centres have reopened.<\/p>
<\/p>
UKVI operations and the Education sector are working closely to ensure student applications are not impacted by earlier closures as a result of Covid-19.<\/p>"}
