The £3.37 million MHCLG Community Fund programme has supported 54 local authorities and community group partnerships to shape and deliver improved services. Six grants are linked to social prescribing, of which three directly target vulnerable children and young people. For example, the \u2018Community Connectors\u2019 project in South Norfolk was awarded £70,000 to deliver social prescribing from all GP surgeries across South Norfolk providing a non-medical solution to social, emotional and practical issues that may be causing health problems for people of all ages.<\/p>
The Department has also contributed towards the £3.5 million jointly invested by the Government and the Co-op Foundation in projects tackling youth loneliness through the Youth Strand of the Building Connections Fund in 2018-19 and 2019-20.<\/p>

Last year\u2019s loneliness strategy, \u2018A Connected Society: A strategy for tackling loneliness - laying the foundations for change\u2019, sets out almost 60 new commitments from nine government departments. Many of these commitments are targeted at tackling loneliness among children and young people.<\/p>
<\/p>
Examples include: teaching all primary and secondary school children in England about loneliness from September 2020 under the new subjects of Relationships Education, Relationships and Sex Education and Health Education and supporting young people to look after local green spaces and wildlife habitats, while building social connections, through the #iwill campaign.<\/p>
<\/p>
Twenty-two of the 126 organisations funded through the £11.5m Building Connections Fund (delivered in partnership with the National Lottery Community Fund and the Co-op Foundation) are working specifically with young people at risk of loneliness. We are also working with the Office for National Statistics and other external partners to improve the evidence base on youth loneliness.<\/p>
