The Children and Families Act (2014) places a legal duty on schools to support children with health conditions, including epilepsy. The Department has published clear, statutory guidance on how to do so in the document ‘Supporting Pupils at School with Medical Conditions’.

Pupils with medical conditions should have an individual healthcare plan drawn up in partnership with a healthcare professional, parents and the pupil themselves. Individual healthcare plans should include details of the support a pupil requires, what needs to be done, when and by whom. It should also contain details of any training required to ensure school staff are competent and confident in their ability to provide the support needed.
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/111", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Nick Gibb"} } , "answeringMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Bognor Regis and Littlehampton"} , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Nick Gibb"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2019-05-24", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2019-05-24T16:05:02.913Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "60"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "Education"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "Education"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2019-05-21", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "Teachers: Training"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "1"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25259", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Commons"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask the Secretary of State for Education, what steps he is taking to ensure that all education professionals are adequately trained to deal with epileptic seizures.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/1436", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Paul Farrelly"} } , "tablingMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Newcastle-under-Lyme"} , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "Paul Farrelly"} ], "uin" : "256958"} , {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1127937", "AnsweringBody" : [{"_value" : "Department for Transport"} ], "answer" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1127937/answer", "answerText" : {"_value" : "

The UK Government is represented on both the Channel Tunnel Intergovernmental Commission (IGC) and the Channel Tunnel Safety Authority (CTSA). These groups meet several times each year and continue to work with Eleclink and Eurotunnel to progress consideration of this issue, following the suspension of consent for the project on safety grounds in October 2017.

In the light of the UK Government’s active role in relation to both the IGC and CTSA, the Government has not made separate representations to the IGC on the ElecLink project.

Levels of co-operation with the Republic of Ireland have developed significantly since the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on Defence and Security Co-operation in 2015. This is underpinned by an action plan which provides a framework to enhance our bilateral defence and security relationship in a number of key areas, including increased training opportunities, cyber defence, maritime and air security, and information-sharing.
