We have been clear that as the UK leaves the EU, we will look to build on our unique relationship with the EU and establish an agreement on science and innovation that ensures the valuable research links between us continue to grow. The Prime Minister reiterated in her Mansion House speech that the UK is committed to establishing a far-reaching science and innovation pact with the EU, facilitating the exchange of ideas and researchers.<\/p>

On Monday 19 March the UK and EU negotiating teams reached another important milestone in the exit process by agreeing the terms of a time-limited implementation period. As part of the next phase of the negotiations, we look forward to working with the EU on designing this science and innovation pact, and we would welcome a full and open discussion about all of the options for continued collaboration.<\/p>"}

The Department is committed to ensuring that all claimants are taken through the Personal Independence Payment (PIP) claim process as quickly as possible. The Department does not differentiate between conditions with the exception of claimants who are terminally ill.<\/p>

Regardless of the claimant\u2019s condition, the PIP claims process continues to work effectively as the end-to-end customer journey is down by nearly three quarters since July 2014 \u2013 from 40 weeks to 11 weeks (January 2018).<\/p>"}

The Department is continually working to improve the claimant journey for Personal Independence Payment (PIP) for all claimants including those with hearing loss.<\/p>
<\/p>
Improvements we have made to date include introducing the Video Relay Service for those with communication difficulties who use British Sign Language (BSL) so they are able to communicate with the Department more easily. The \u2018Next Generation Text\u2019 (NGT) service is available for Deaf or hard of hearing claimants unable to use BSL or those unable to speak. Claim forms can be requested in writing or by email. We can also arrange for a DWP Visiting Officer to visit the claimant, with a BSL interpreter if required, to help with completion of the PIP claim form.<\/p>
<\/p>
Assessment Providers must provide on request materials in alternative formats to meet the needs of claimants with a wide range of disabilities and health conditions in line with the Disability and Equality Act 2010. This includes providing a British Sign Language interpreter to be present at an assessment if requested in advance. Companions are also encouraged to attend and can play an active role during the assessment.<\/p>"}
