Final decisions have not yet been taken on BAE Systems’ consultation on transforming its business. However the Government remains engaged with BAE Systems to understand the impact of the potential job reductions, and to ensure that vital skills are maintained.

This Government recognises the strength and capability of the UK's aerospace sector. We have a substantial programme of work underway through the Defence Growth Partnership, which is identifying opportunities to encourage growth and competitiveness of the UK defence sector. Taken alongside the Future Combat Air Systems Technology Initiative, this will maintain and enhance the UK's position as a global leader in combat air technologies.
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/3974", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Claire Perry"} } , "answeringMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Devizes"} , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Claire Perry"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2017-10-24", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "previousAnswerVersion" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/772089/answer/previousversion/16617", "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/3974", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Claire Perry"} } , "answeringMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Devizes"} , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Claire Perry"} } , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2017-10-24T12:09:18.55Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "201"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2017-10-17", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "BAE Systems: Redundancy"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "1"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25259", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Commons"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, what assessment he has made of the potential effect of BAE Systems job losses, announced in October 2017, on the UK's capacity to produce aircraft and aviation systems.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/1533", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Dame Diana Johnson"} } , "tablingMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Kingston upon Hull North"} , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "Diana Johnson"} ], "uin" : "108110"} , {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/772090", "AnsweringBody" : [{"_value" : "Ministry of Defence"} ], "answer" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/772090/answer", "answerText" : {"_value" : "
