I am confident of the independence and the integrity of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Alison Saunders, in making the difficult judgements the job of a prosecutor involves.<\/ins><\/p><p><ins class=\"ministerial\">The Victims\u2019 Right to Review, which Alison Saunders helped to bring in, allows any victim of crime who is dissatisfied with a decision taken by a prosecutor not to proceed with their case to ask for the decision to be reviewed. This review has operated as it was designed to in the case of Greville Janner.<\/ins><\/p><p><ins class=\"ministerial\">We are world leaders in offering that safeguard for victims and since Alison Saunders has been DPP, the CPS has prosecuted and convicted more child sex offenders than ever before.<\/ins><\/p><p> <\/p><p><del class=\"ministerial\">In the year to 31<sup>st <\/sup>December 2014, the Law Officers personally considered 469 cases and referred 128 offenders to the Court of Appeal under the unduly lenient sentence scheme. Leave was granted by the Court in 95% of cases which included some of the most serious violent and sexual offences, including murder, rape and sexual assault.<\/del><\/p><p><br /><del class=\"ministerial\">The Attorney General\u2019s Office publishes statistics for unduly lenient sentences at the end of the calendar year. This is to ensure that the figures are released in a consistent format and are accurate and quality assured.       ], "answer" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/387885/answer", "answerText" : {"_value" : "<p>Just Solutions international (JSi) was established in the previous parliament as the internal commercial brand of the National Offender Management Service (NOMS).<\/p><p> <\/p><p>Given our ambitious justice reform programme and the need to focus departmental resources on domestic priorities, the Justice Secretary has decided that JSi should cease to operate. NOMS will therefore not pursue any new projects with international partners through JSi.<\/p><p> <\/p><p>One project led by NOMS through JSi is sufficiently far advanced that the Government has decided withdrawing at this late stage would be detrimental to HMG\u2019s wider interests. Under the JSi brand, NOMS submitted an initial bid to the Saudi Arabian authorities in August 2014<strong><ins class=\"ministerial\">, and a final bid in April 2015,<\/ins><\/strong> to conduct a training needs analysis for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia prison service staff, via ELM, an executive agency of the Saudi Ministry of Finance. <del class=\"ministerial\">Following the submission of a final bid in April 2015, NOMS is now liable for financial penalties should the bid be withdrawn.<\/del> NOMS\u2019s bid was signed off through the Foreign and Commonwealth Office Overseas Security and Justice Assistance (OSJA) process, and was supported by UKTI and the British Embassy in Riyadh.<\/p><p> <\/p><p>NOMS will therefore honour this outstanding bid and enter into a contract subject to the final decisions of ELM. All work relating to this project will be completed within 6 months of starting.<\/p><p> <\/p><p>My Department will continue to promote the rule of law, good governance and judicial reform internationally, working with FCO, DFID and other Government Departments as required. In future, any support will be provided on a cost recovery rather than a commercial basis.<\/p>"}
