The Government has committed £2.5 billion to offset the higher upfront costs of electric vehicles and funding to accelerate the rollout of the charging infrastructure. The Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme has been a phenomenal success and is heavily oversubscribed. We have considered carefully how to manage a transition from its current scope to one that is more focused on those that need it most.<\/p>
The Government recognises the difficulties that people renting or leasing properties can face when looking to install chargepoints. We are therefore reforming the Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme to focus our resources on helping them. This will give more support to people who live in flats or rent. We are expanding who can apply to allow landlords, such as social housing providers, to access the scheme and providing them with additional support to install chargepoints for parking in apartment blocks.<\/p>

The Department has committed over £1.3 billion to accelerate the roll out of charging infrastructure on motorways and major A roads, in homes and businesses and on-street. This funding includes the Local EV Infrastructure Fund, which will be available to English local authorities in 2022/3. This fund will facilitate the roll-out of larger scale charging infrastructure projects across the country.<\/p>
Local authorities in rural areas are also able to take advantage of the On-street Residential Chargepoint Scheme, which assists them with the cost of installing chargepoints on residential streets for their residents without access to private parking.<\/p>
To support local authorities in accessing this funding, DfT funds Energy Saving Trust to offer expert advice on EV charging and support on developing EV strategies. Energy Saving Trust, in partnership with DfT, also hosts a library of webinars and guidance for local authorities on installing charging points. This includes webinars specifically for rural local authorities.<\/p>
