Under the Online Safety Act, companies will be forced to take action against illegal content online. The Foreign Interference Offence, a priority offence in the Act, will require companies to tackle a wide range of state-linked interference online, and platforms will be faced with enforcement action from Ofcom in case of non-compliance.<\/p>

The department engages regularly with social media platforms to discuss state sponsored activity online. The Online Safety Act (OSA) will be the Governments key tool in combatting online mis- and disinformation. It sets out a clear regulatory framework to tackle both mis- and disinformation where it constitutes illegal content or harmful content to children.<\/p>

These duties will come into force once Ofcom has completed its consultation and publication of the relevant Codes of Practice.<\/p>
