To prosecute terrorists for treason risks giving their actions a political status or glamour they do not deserve, rather than treating them merely as criminals. The UK has a comprehensive range of terrorism offences and other powers, which we consider the most appropriate means of dealing with foreign terrorist fighters. Additionally, the Government has just passed the Counter-Terrorism and Border Security Act, which updates terrorism offences and introduces new powers, to reflect the threat we face today from foreign terrorist fighters. This will provide the police and intelligence services with the powers they need to protect the public.
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4311", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Baroness Williams of Trafford"} } , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Baroness Williams of Trafford"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2019-05-10", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2019-05-10T12:39:30.547Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "1"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "Home Office"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "Home Office"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2019-04-25", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "Islamic State: British Nationals Abroad"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "2"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25277", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Lords"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask Her Majesty's Government, further to the remarks by the Home Secretary on 18 February (HC Deb, col 1198), what consideration they have given to updating the Treason Act 1945 to provide a tenable basis for the prosecution of British citizens who (1) participate in, (2) help to fund, and (3) organise, ISIS inspired atrocities overseas.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/738", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Lord Alton of Liverpool"} } , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "Lord Alton of Liverpool"} ], "uin" : "HL15336"} , {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1123282", "AnsweringBody" : [{"_value" : "Home Office"} ], "answer" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1123282/answer", "answerText" : {"_value" : "
The fees for applications from Commonwealth citizens who have served in the armed forces are the same as applications from Commonwealth applicants who have not.

When setting fees, the Home Office takes into account the cost of processing the application, the wider cost of running Border, Immigration and Citizenship (BIC) system and the benefits the Home Office believes are likely to accrue from a successful application

Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) is a crime and it is child abuse. The Government is clear that we will not tolerate a practice that can cause extreme and lifelong suffering to women and girls.

The Home Office’s FGM unit is driving a step change in our nationwide out-reach on FGM. The Unit is providing outreach support to local areas and working to raise awareness of resources available to professionals, including training, best practice examples and information on legislation and policy. Resources include an e-learning package, various communication materials such as leaflets and posters highlighting the legislation and health impacts of FGM and an online resource pack for local areas. These materials are available at:
