Economic ties between the United Kingdom and Thailand are already strong – bilateral trade in 2016 accounted for over £5 billion. The FCO works with the Department for International Trade and Thai counterparts to encourage deeper economic ties, including through engagement on high value opportunities, improving the conditions for business, and supporting the Thailand UK Business Leadership Council established in 2016.

Tourism between the UK and Thailand is high – we are pleased that over 1 million British nationals visit Thailand every year. There is a growing body of evidence that Daesh has committed appalling crimes against minority communities in Iraq, including Yezidis, and we are working with our international partners to ensure that those responsible are held to account. On 21 September 2017, the UN Security Council unanimously adopted the UK-drafted Daesh Accountability Resolution 2379, co-sponsored by 46 Member States, including Iraq. The resolution calls for the UN Secretary General to establish an Investigative Team to collect, preserve and store evidence of Daesh crimes, beginning in Iraq. The team will be led by a Special Adviser with a mandate to promote the need to bring Daesh to justice across the globe.
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/1201", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Alistair Burt"} } , "answeringMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "North East Bedfordshire"} , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Alistair Burt"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2017-10-30", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2017-10-30T16:03:23.95Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "16"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "Foreign and Commonwealth Office"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "Foreign and Commonwealth Office"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2017-10-23", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "Iraq: Yazidis"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "1"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25259", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Commons"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, what steps his Department is taking to assist the UN inquiry on genocide against Yazidis in Iraq.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4131", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Jim Shannon"} } , "tablingMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Strangford"} , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "Jim Shannon"} ], "uin" : "109170"} , {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/773183", "AnsweringBody" : [{"_value" : "Foreign and Commonwealth Office"} ], "answer" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/773183/answer", "answerText" : {"_value" : "

Her Majesty's Government remains firmly committed to the promotion of human rights and the protection of Freedom of Religion or Belief in all countries. During my recent visit to Colombo and Jaffna I raised the importance of the Sri Lankan Government implementing in full, its commitments under UN Human Rights Council Resolution 34/ 1, which reaffirms Resolution 30/1. Section 11 of this Resolution encourages the Government of Sri Lanka to investigate all attacks on members of religious minority groups and places of worship and hold perpetrators to account.

Through our bilateral work we fund a project supporting the development of two District Inter-Religious Committees in the Eastern Province, which bring together community leaders from different faith groups to discuss and mediate local issues of concern. The Government strongly supports the work of INGOs and NGOs in Pakistan. They are important development partners for the UK Government and reach an estimated 19 million of the poorest people in Pakistan. We have been concerned by some of the restrictions placed on NGOs, particularly INGOs, by the Government of Pakistan and others. We regularly raise the importance of maintaining the space for civil society and allowing organisations to continue their important development, humanitarian and human rights work as well as their work to counter the drivers of violent extremism, at senior levels within the Government of Pakistan. We continue to encourage the Government of Pakistan to engage NGOs on policies that affect them.

A review by UN Human Rights Council of Pakistan's implementation of the international Covenant on Civil and Political Rights held in July this year noted its concern about the Government of Pakistan's regulations of INGOs.
