Wales has the potential to lead in hydrogen generation technology and the UK Government is committed to ensuring that Wales plays its full part in delivering the UK’s future energy mix. I recently saw the leading role Wales can play in this area when I visited Riversimple, a hydrogen car manufacturer based in Powys.

UK Research and Innovation also continues to support the South Wales Industrial Cluster with £170million of funding as part of the Industrial Decarbonisation challenge. The Cluster will play its part in developing options for decarbonising the region’s industrial base, including the use of hydrogen.

I regularly discuss a range of issues with the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy and earlier this month BEIS Ministers and I met with companies looking to expand hydrogen production in Wales.

The Government aims to consult on a preferred business model for low-carbon hydrogen production in 2021. This will be key to stimulating the deployment of hydrogen across the UK.
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/3944", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Simon Hart"} } , "answeringMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire"} , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Simon Hart"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2020-09-15", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2020-09-15T09:47:35.167Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "28"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "Wales"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "Wales"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2020-09-07", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "Hydrogen: Wales"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "1"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25259", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Commons"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask the Secretary of State for Wales, what assessment he has made of the role that Wales can play in the UK's hydrogen strategy; and what discussions he has had with the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy on the UK's hydrogen strategy.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4866", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Alexander Stafford"} } , "tablingMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Rother Valley"} , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "Alexander Stafford"} ], "uin" : "86217"} , {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1244202", "AnsweringBody" : [{"_value" : "Wales Office"} ], "answer" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1244202/answer", "answerText" : {"_value" : "

I wrote to the First Minister last week to seek urgent clarification on the additional travel restrictions placed by the Welsh Government on people travelling to Wales from England, Scotland and Northern Ireland. This included the evidence on which the restrictions are based and how the measures will be enforced.

I have not yet received a detailed response from the First Minister to the questions I have asked. There is a lack of clarity on many aspects of the new restrictions. I remain concerned about how the Welsh Government intends to enforce its new regulations and the impacts of any enforcement measures on the resources of Welsh police forces.
"} , "answeringMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/3944", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Simon Hart"} } , "answeringMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire"} , "answeringMemberPrinted" : {"_value" : "Simon Hart"} , "dateOfAnswer" : {"_value" : "2020-10-22", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "isMinisterialCorrection" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "questionFirstAnswered" : [{"_value" : "2020-10-22T10:32:02.497Z", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} ]} , "answeringDeptId" : {"_value" : "28"} , "answeringDeptShortName" : {"_value" : "Wales"} , "answeringDeptSortName" : {"_value" : "Wales"} , "date" : {"_value" : "2020-10-16", "_datatype" : "dateTime"} , "hansardHeading" : {"_value" : "Coronavirus: Wales"} , "houseId" : {"_value" : "1"} , "legislature" : [{"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/terms/25259", "prefLabel" : {"_value" : "House of Commons"} } ], "questionText" : "To ask the Secretary of State for Wales, what discussions he has had with the Welsh Government on police powers to stop vehicles travelling into Wales during the covid-19 outbreak.", "registeredInterest" : {"_value" : "false", "_datatype" : "boolean"} , "tablingMember" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/members/4866", "label" : {"_value" : "Biography information for Alexander Stafford"} } , "tablingMemberConstituency" : {"_value" : "Rother Valley"} , "tablingMemberPrinted" : [{"_value" : "Alexander Stafford"} ], "uin" : "104782"} , {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1487630", "AnsweringBody" : [{"_value" : "Wales Office"} ], "answer" : {"_about" : "http://data.parliament.uk/resources/1487630/answer", "answerText" : {"_value" : "

The UK Government recognises the importance of cross-border connectivity, including the Wrexham to Bidston line. This is why we commissioned Sir Peter Hendy to conduct his review into Union Connectivity.

The final report of the Union Connectivity Review contains recommendations which aim to improve connectivity in North Wales and the Mersey Dee region. The Government is considering the Review’s recommendations carefully before responding.
