As highlighted in the new Transport Investment Strategy, the Department for Transport, where appropriate, will offer targeted support to local authorities to help develop their bidding and delivery capability thus ensuring all areas of the country have the potential to produce high quality business cases to realise the benefits that strong transport projects will unlock.<\/p>

The Department is also funding Local Authorities\u2019 business case development costs for selected schemes within the Large Local Major schemes programme.<\/p>

Maintaining the safety record of UK aviation is something we take very seriously. That is why concerns raised about cabin air have been investigated at length over a number of years. These scientific research projects have not been able to confirm a link between perceived cabin air quality and illness.<\/p>
<\/strong><\/p>The Aviation Health Unit within the Medical Department of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) will continue to monitor issues around cabin air as part of their wider role as specialist adviser to the Government on aviation health issues.<\/p>

One unsuccessful bidder made a claim against the Department concerning the procurement for the original contract. The department entered into an out of court settlement for £16 million including costs. The legal costs incurred by the Government in relation to this litigation total £167,929.70. This figure includes VAT where payable (for example on Counsel\u2019s fees) and disbursements. Time spent by Government advisory lawyers is not recorded in a manner that allows it to be attributable to individual cases.<\/p>
